Reader with integral controller. Quick and simple to wire up. Integrated intelligence allows local programming at the door. Fast adding and deleting of codes.

Reader with seperate controller. More secure solution with control unit on the safe side of the door. Often provides a more practical solution for back to back readers. Central based controllers can make programming multiple doors quicker.
