First task is to detach the front door trim, which involves removing a number of items. Start this process by undoing the screws which hold on the door pocket (if present).

Then undo the screws holding the door-pull assembly

Then undo the two screws which secure the door trim as shown on the left.

Now remove the small screw which sits in the recess on the top of the door trim.

Pull the window-winder handle off as shown in the photograph.

And finally, remove the door trim from the door

With the trim removed, the next step is to detach the window-guide and lock-barrel. This is achieved by undoing 2 small bolts as shown in the photo on the right. Once detached, just move it to the left, out of your way.

Turn the lock-barrel retaining ring anticlockwise and remove. You will not be refitting this! Withdraw the lock-barrel.

Using the gasket as a template, mark the drill-holes

Since this area of the door is double-skinned, you will need to drill a pilot-hole before using your large drill bit. With the holes drilled and the painted with touch-up paint, you can now fit the zinc-coated backing plate and reinsert the lock barrel.

Now you are ready to fit the stainless-steel frontplate. Fit the two gaskets to the back of the plate and apply a small amount of silicone around the threaded stud areas. Then fit the plate to the door as indicated in the picture above and after fitting the small spacer strip show below, attach the Nyloc Lock Nuts and tighten.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!

The final step in the installation of Armaplate is to make sure that the keyhole is perfectly aligned. Since the locking nuts were not over-tightened, there is still a small amount of adjustment available by gently tapping the edge of the plate

Looking squarely at the keyhole, make sure the lock-mechanism is in the center of the hole in the Armaplate. If it is not perfectly aligned, use a soft-faced mallet to gently move the plate to the correct position

Finally, close the door, insert the door key and make sure that the door locks and unlocks easily

Once you are happy that the plate is fitted correctly, replace the inner door panels, door pull and window winder.
