Lighting
Good Lighting can deter a thief. Some exterior
lights have an infra-red sensor that switches
the light on for a few moments when it detects
something in its range. Sensors can be bought
separately to convert an existing outdoor
light into a security one. The Brighter
the better. Remember not to dazzle motor
cars etc. on a main road.
Most burglaries happen when a house or
flat is empty, so:
Use time switches to turn on lights, radios
and other appliances when your out.
Don't tempt the thief, keep all valuable
items out of site.
Don't advertise your absence when you on
holiday, or even when out at work or shopping.
Most burglars will only tackle an empty
house.
If you can, get a friend or neighbor to
look after your home when you are away,
by collecting your post, drawing your curtains
at night and generally making the place
looked lived in. Be prepared to do the same
for them.

| Burglar Alarms Visible
burglar alarms makes burglars think twice.
If you were to put yourself in the position
of the burglar could you afford to take
the chance that someone walking their dog
in the middle of the night will hear the
alarm and spot you, probably not, Burglar
alarms work !
If you are planing to have an alarm installed
by a professional company always get a few
quotes and make sure they are listed with
Nacoss or the SSAIB in the UK. This will
ensure that they carry the proper insurance
to cover you in the event that the system
was to fail to perform. Your local crime
prevention officer may have a list of approved
installers in your area. We are listed with
Dyfed Powys Police and the SSAIB. Be a bit
careful with radio systems as some of the
old type may pick up stray signals form
taxies and radio ham enthusiasts. If you
plan to fit the system for yourself make
sure it complies to BS 6707 and a professional
system to BS 4737. Central monitoring stations
have been set up in the country to assist
the call of alarms to the police. They used
to be connected straight through the 999
service but that has been stooped for a
good 10 years or more. Normally a small
charge is made for this service. Your local
alarm company can assist you in offering
this service.
Make sure that the alarm is fitted correctly
if you have any problems with you alarm
feel free to mail us with a query if you
have one with over 15 years of fitting systems
we should be able to help. Remember false
alarms limits the response of your alarm,
get it serviced at least once a year.
