This is the mortice nightlatch version of the Borg 5000 series. It is often the preferred option over a tubular latch as the latch itself will deadlock when the door is closed, preventing latch-slipping attacks. It does this by utilising a small snib next to the latch itself, which when compressed, locks the latch out in place, so that you are unable to push the latch back into the lock without using the handles to do so. And without the code, this is of course not possible!
Both the inside and outside handles on these are disability-friendly and are therefore suitable for use in DDA applications. Which of course is very important for businesses serving the public. The outer side of the door would play host to the combination code entry side of the handle, and the inner side then would have just the blank backplate with the same return to door style handle for free exit.
Borg rate the 5000 series as suitable for medium to heavy duty use, plus with the latest
introduction of clutched handle operation; this will now prevent damage to
the lock mechanisms if the handles are forced, either in the attempt of breaching security, or more innocently, due to incorrect code entry then a harsh push on the handle.
Also available on this code lock is the highly useful Free Passage Mode. Simply
by entering the correct code and pressing the 'F' button, the
combination lock will now allow free access until the F button is
pressed again to retract the mechanism back out of Free Passage Mode.
So for certain times of the day or perhaps in the morning for
deliveries, you may want to allow free passage to prevent obstruction to
important access, without giving out the code - or indeed simply to
make entering multiple times a lot quicker even for authorised code
holders.
All finishes (Satin or Polished Chrome, Polished Brass and the Stainless Steel finishes) are PVD coated to allow for external use, but be mindful that the units themselves are not fully waterproof so it is important to consider a sheltered location if using these outdoors.
