Fully manageable via a smartphone app, this 2-in-1 fingerprint and prox reader offers true single and dual-authentication from live fingerprint recognition as well as proximity card access.

Out of the box, the unit will operate as a managed stand-alone unit with Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to add, delete and modify user access, as well as modify the units settings via the app on your smartphone.  This is the simplest and most direct form of operation for these units and is highly recommended, as it gives you all the functionality most users require, without being overly complicated.

Setting up the device is very easy.  You simply load up the app on your smartphone, click to search for nearby terminals, and tap 'view' on the device when it shows up.  You will be prompted for a password but at this out-of-the-box stage the unit should have no user or password set up, so you can login without entering a username or password.   From here, you can enrol your first user (more info on this below and in the programming instructions), and set it to a 'Manager'.  Next time you login to the unit, you can login with your registered fingerprint / card for that 'manager'.

Enrolling users is straight-forward, you simply load up the app on your smartphone, search for nearby terminals, and tap 'view' on the device you wish to manage.  From here, you can view, edit, remove and add users.  Enrolling is really easy, you simply click to add a new user, and when prompted by the terminal (lens will be flashing), you press the user's finger onto the reader until it bleeps, then remove the finger.  The unit will require you to do this 2-5 times until a successful map of the fingerprint has been achieved.

Whilst enrolling or modifying users, you will also see the option for card access (amongst others, which are not all available on this particular user-friendly device) - by ticking card, you will also be expected to present a valid Mifare card to the reader which will register against them.  This can be configured to be 'card or fingerprint' but also for additional security can be set up to require both the card and the users fingerprint to gain entry.

With its large memory capacity, you can enrol up to 1000 users on these devices depending on how many fingers you're enrolling per user, which gives huge scope for offices and similar.  In addition to this, you can view full access history logs of up to 51,000 actions on the device.  This includes failed and successful login attempts, as well as tamper alerts and similar.

Fingerprint Technology

These units are fitted with the impressive Union Patented White Light Optical Sensor, which not only offers highly accurate readings, but also has 'True Live' finger detection, which helps to prevent any unauthorised entry through use of fake / artificial fingerprints.  These readers produce impressive results as long as they are kept clean and dry (like any optical sensor!).

Prox Card Technology

As standard, these units have built-in card readers for 13.56 Mhz EM cards (Mifare, even your contactless debit/credit/oyster card should work on these if you wanted to try it out first).  But it is also possible to get these specially built with the more basic 125khz EM readers, as well as HID Prox readers and HID iClass readers.  If you require any of these non-standard options please let us know and we can quote for you.

Stand-Alone vs Networked

It is important to know that this system can work as a self-contained stand-alone unit, but also offers full Weigand outputs for integration with access control systems reading/writing Weigand data, as well as basic network-connected functionality with server software and desktop enrolment readers available. The unit is also features full Paxton Approved Integration, so can be integrated with networked Paxton access systems.

However, this networked side of the product functionality requires advanced IT knowledge and is not recommended unless you have experienced server admins on-site.

We recommend for most users that you use this reader as a stand-alone unit, managed over Bluetooth via your Smartphone.

Installer Tips

The central moulded fly-lead coming out of the back of this unit features a terminal block on the other end.  This is designed to prevent cables shorting, and it is intended that you would cut / remove the cables you are going to use from the terminal block to allow you to to use strip-connectors or similar to continue your cable run to your locks etc.

The two-wire power terminal is designed to work with the supplied mains adaptor, but can be stripped off if you plan to use a separate 12v DC power supply.

The ethernet terminal block should be left in-tact as this is used for connecting to a TCP/IP system for networked systems.

Whilst the unit itself has an IP65 rating, it is advised that if fitting this externally, you should fit this in a sheltered setting or artificially provide shelter to the reader as the reader will not operate well with moisture on the lens.  Similarly, you should also ensure your wiring / terminations are protected from weather.

The maximum load on the lock relay output is 1amp @ 12v DC.  If you are controlling locks which demand high current on operation, then you will need to consider a dedicated power supply and make use of a handy relay rather than over-loading the relay which would damage the unit.
