Using the mobile network, this all-in-one GSM switch not only allows you to phone the unit to remotely trigger your locks, lighting and other applications by a quick and easy call or text message, but it also features monitored inputs, which when triggered, will either send you a text message or call you, depending on how you've set the device up.
In principle, the base functionality of this device is quite simple - you would insert a SIM card that allows the device to receive calls - and add all the numbers of authorised persons into the SIM card's whitelist by sending messages to the device with the phone numbers on. These are then stored so that when any of these people call the device, it will check the caller-ID, and if it exists in the whitelist, it will trigger the output relay to change state. You can also change the settings to allow anonymous callers to have access (including withheld numbers or numbers not in the whitelist) - this is a less common approach but in some scenarios can be exactly what you need.
As mentioned, there's also input monitors which can be used to alert you in the event of an alarm trigger or similar. So it might be that you have alarm outputs from your security systems or fire alarm, which you'd like to wire up to this GSM communicator, so in the event that the alarm is activated, it will trigger the GSM switch to call your phone or send you a text message to notify you of the alarm being triggered. Similarly, you might have monitored outputs from your electric locks on your doors which raise an alarm after a certain period of the door being left ajar - you could also use these to receive an alert from the GSM switch. This is an incredibly useful feature and can really solve a lot of problems.
Another fantastic feature of this unit is the SMS-forwarding feature, which allows you to get a copy of any texts sent to the SIM card. Most GSM switches do not offer this functionality but it can be incredibly useful for certain applications, where you may be likely to receive notices from your service provider regarding credit, spend-caps and important alerts.
There are an array of settings on this device that can be selected via a series of dip-switches you'll see in the photos. There are four dip-switches in total and their functionality is detailed in the chart below:
OFF | ON | |
DIP SWITCH #1 | Relay is set to a momentary time-adjustable switch-over (default) | Relay is set to toggle-mode, requires a trigger to change state both ways |
DIP SWITCH #2 | Alarm input state is N.O (default) | Alarm input state is N.C |
DIP SWITCH #3 | SMS text-message will be sent when alarm input is triggered (default) | SMS text-message & phonecall will be initiated when alarm input is triggered |
DIP SWITCH #4 | Only whitelisted users can trigger the relay by calling the unit (default) | Anyone can trigger the relay by calling the unit |
The devices requires an input voltage of anywhere between 10-35v DC, and can also work on 16-24v AC, so will work with the vast majority of existing power sources on access control systems and electric locks etc. However, should you need a dedicated power supply please see our range of boxed power supplies or inline power supplies.
When it comes to programming the unit's time-settings and caller whitelist etc, this is incredibly simple to do and can all be done with quick and easy text-messages to the device. Multiple commands can also be grouped into single text-messages to save time. Please refer to the datasheet for full wiring and programming instructions!
* Please note - this unit uses the 2G network only, as it does not require internet data etc, so please ensure you use a SIM from a carrier that supports standard 2G communication - we understand that "3" and their partner carriers only support 3G+.
