This electric lock is designed for fire doors and as such, has all the prerequisites you would expect from such a concept, including fire testing and a complex latch design that can still operate under heavy side-load pressure where most locks would inevitably fail to operate.
This incredible lock will still operate under an impressive 500lbs of side-load pressure, thats over 225kg of force on the lock whilst still being able to function without compromise. And that's alongside rigorous testing to over 250,000 cycles without failure, and of course the all important fire-resistance tests conducted in accordance with BS EN 1634-1:2014 and BS EN 1363-1:2012.
Another impressive feature of this latch is that it is bi-directional. This allows the lock to be used on inward-opening and outward-opening doors, either left or right handed; not forgetting that these can also be used on double-swinging doors that can open in AND out.
On top of all this mechanical excellence, the electronics of the lock also aim to impress. With dual-monitoring outputs, the lock offers two sets of NO/NC/COM contacts, one labelled 'Lock Status' and the other labelled 'Door Status'. This means you have outputs you can monitor in various different ways of your choosing, to allow you to know whether the door is open or closed, as well as whether the lock is engaged or not.
Of course it is no surprise since this is a GEM product, that the mechanical operation is smooth, precise and all-round impressive. And away from this, the lock itself feels solid and well weighted, where some others out there in the market can often feel light and a bit flimsy.
