Looking for a strike release for a fire door? Your search is over! Our range of fire-rated strike releases have achieved a 120 minute fire certification and with an impressive holding force of 1,000kg (over 2,200lbs)!
These are available in both 12 volt DC and 24 volt DC models, allowing for seamless integration into the vast majority of access control systems, and as well as having achieved a fantastic 120 minute (2-hour) fire rating under EN 1634-1, these are available in both fail-secure and fail-safe. You may also know these terms as fail-locked and fail-unlocked.
What is fail-secure (fail-locked) and fail-safe (fail-unlocked)?
This is a common question that is very easily answered - fail-secure (fail-locked) simply means that in the event of power failure, the strike release will stay closed. Alternatively, the fail-safe (fail-unlocked) versions will release if power is cut. Both have their benefits, but it is up to you to decide whether your primary concern is security or fire safety. In both cases, it is advisable to use a power supply with a backup battery, to help avoid the nuisance of power failure.
In addition, the fail-locked (fail-secure) models now feature monitoring outputs, dictated by a latch monitoring microswitch situated inside the jaw, which when compressed by the latch when the door is in the closed position, changes the internal relay state so the COM/NO/NC monitored outputs change over.
