Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. Today we're talking about strike releases, and more importantly we're taking about the rim strike release, the R12 that we have now listed on our website.

One of the distinct advantages of this particular type of strike release is it has an adjustable jaw that allows you that if the fitting wasn't just right or the latch didn't actually go into the strike just right, you have the ability to adjust the jaw backwards and forwards, banging around about 5 or 6mm. So it gives you a real distinct advantage that if you're not the best of carpenters these days, you've got that little bit of flexibility. So there is a top tip in regards to that. Let's get the product out, let's have a look at it and see what you think. So this is the actual strike release here. It's a rim application, hence the reason for the word "R" and obviously 12 means it's a 12-volt supply. So it works on 12-volt DC and AC if you need it to do so.

Now if you zoom in there firstly, you can actually see the adjustments there that you can have. What you would effectively do is you undo that screw, undo that screw and you can move that jaw both inwards and outwards, depending on your application. Now the connections on the inside are pretty standard. It's up inside here. It might be a little bit difficult to get at, but if you undo those two screws there you can get at the connections there, no problem at all.

And there is a little bit of space around that allows you to get the cable in behind there. In fact, to say there are some outlets here that you can see on the back to allow you to get the cable out nice and fluid. So it's for a rim application, so if you've got some in like a Yale type lock that has got a latch, etc., then this is the type of strike release hat you need to be looking at. It's designed for low duty uses so somewhere like a little flat or a block of flats or something like that where you've got two or three flats. Guys, this isn't any problem whatsoever. It would work and it would work incredibly well.

Now it comes in either 12 volts AC or 12 volts DC. If you're thinking that you need to be changing it for one of these, one of the ways that you can establish whether or not your strike release was AC or DC is that if when you press the button on your intercom or whatever system that you may have if it goes [buzzing sound], like that, and buzzes, then the chances are it was AC. If it just clicks [clicking sound], like that, then the chances are it was DC. So that gives you a real good indicator as to what it probably is.

In the world of averages most the majority of access control system, other than being interfaced for fire alarms, perhaps a little bit different, but most access control systems are 12 volts so you can probably be safe in the knowledge that the system that you have is also 12 volts.

What I'll do now is I'll get some measurements for you so it will give you an opportunity that you can think, "Oh, this is just the idea of what I want." Lets make sure of if it will fit on your door. So the actual overall length there is 106, 107mm overall. The actual depth there is 52, 53mm there. This particular part of the lock there is 36mm, no problem at all. The depth there, that there is 25mm. And the depth of the back there is 25mm as well, also. The actual depth of the jaw, which is quite important, that there is . . . I am going to be saying that's about 6.5, maybe 7mm in there. I don't think you can zoom in there enough to give them some sort of get depth there.

The actual width of that as well, depending on how wide your particular latch is, guys, this is going to accept the latch up to a 40mm wide. So that's quite a significant width on the latch. So there you go. I don't think that there is any much more that I can actually say about it. It is quite a very popular strike on our website. One the reason is, as I 've already mentioned, it has this adjustable jaw, which really makes your life easier. If in the winter your door swells a little bit and it gets a bit stiff, adjust the strike. If in the summer it gets a little bit sloppy and is a bit rattly, press the strike in. So it really does have distinct advantages for that extra couple of quid more.

But if you need a bit more information on this particular product or any of our products on our website, and there is a far few to talk about, by all means, pop over an email, use our live chat on our website, which is totally free and you can talk to me or any of the guys on the sales team or just pick up the phone and give us a call.
