Hi guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we're talking about Euro profile cylinders and, more importantly, we're talking about the manufacturer Union and their particular range of Euro profile cylinders that we have on our website. Now a Euro profile as a cylinder is pretty common these days. They're used in UPVC doors by the hundreds of thousands. They're used also on master key systems and commercial applications and so forth and even on aluminium doors. They're quite prevalent now throughout the majority of the locking solutions that are available in the UK and into Europe as well. So you're bound to come across one and the chances are you may even have one on your particular type of door.
Union's range of Euro cylinders, they come in three different sizes. They come in 30 by 30, they come in 35 by 35, and they come in 40 by 40. The one that we have here is the knob range where there's an actual knob on the inside. So, this is the actual cylinder itself. This particular one here is the 30 by 30 and of course then it goes bigger by 5mm increments on either side.
Now, one of the distinct advantages here, as you can see, is it has a knob turn on the inside and the idea of that is that it allows you to throw the bolt over from the inside when you want a little bit of privacy and you want a little bit of security, but you still need the key in which to get in from the outside. So you can deadlock it with the key from the outside and the cylinder you can use then when you're inside. Now it comes as standard with three keys, as you can see there. Three keys is standard.
But let me talk to you a little bit more about using knob turns. Now, if you're thinking of fitting this in an office or in a commercial environment, you should always consider putting a thumb turn on the inside to facilitate the means of escape, to get people out when they don't need to use a key.
If you're thinking of fitting this in your home, bear in mind that if somebody broke in somewhere else into your house, and they came up to your front door, they can do the same as what you can do, in which to unlock and lock your door by simply undoing that and they can actually get out. So you need to seriously consider whether or not you want to use a knob turn in your home. It's probably better to use a key both sides, and therefore then, you can actually deadlock your door, which means you can't get in or out once you've secured it. But there are applications, and sometimes there are times that you may need to use a turn in the event of fire or the event of an emergency or something similar like that. Okay, so that's what you need to be aware of in that respect.
They come as standard in a satin chrome finish here, and one thing again Union strikes is the quality of the finish as well. It's smooth and it's very, very precise. But it also comes in a brass and a polished brass finish as well. Now to measure this particular type of cylinder, it's all measured from the centre to the outside of either side of this particular type of cylinder. So if I was to get that there like that, you can see there I'm measuring to the centre, and that's 31mm or 32mm, but we would call it probably 30 by 30. It's an industry sort of terminology that they all start at 5mm increments.
Now, this is the size of cylinder that you would probably use on a 44mm thick door where you have a set of escutcheons on either side around about the 5mm on either side. Five, maybe 8mm. And therefore it would sit out just nice on either side to work it really well in conjunction. You don't want this cylinder projecting out the lock so it's well worth you making sure that you get the right size cylinder for yourself.
Now of course we can get these keyed alike for you so you can get groups keyed alike if you want all your doors in your home or your office to be keyed alike. But we can also get them master keyed and we can also furnish additional master key systems that you may already have if the license is open. So come over and have a chat with us if you've got a master key system and you want to get more information on that.
There's not much more that I can say about this particular type of cylinder other than if you need a bit more information or you want a bit more advice, by all means pop online, give us a call, or use the live chat that we have on our website. Either way, we'd love to hear from you and, more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer. So I really hope this video has given you a little bit more information than a picture and a couple of words could give to give you a better understanding that this may be the product you're looking for. So from me, Darrel, catch up with you real soon. Take care now. Bye-bye.
