Euro cylinders, commonly referred to as 'euro locks' or 'euro barrels' are a particular profile of locking cylinder that is used in conjunction with an appropriate euro-profile mortice locks or multipoint door locks, and have become the norm now for most doors in the UK, especially with the influx of uPVC and Composite doors on the market now using multipoint locks for added security, which are predominantly all operated using euro cylinders.
Euro profile cylinders come in different configurations, you can have key-operation on both sides, as well as key operation on one side with a handy thumb-turn on the inside for quick and convenient keyless operation. They also are available as 'half' or 'single' cylinders, which are designed to only be operated on one side, typically by a key but we can also make them with a thumbturn if desired.
The euro-profile is visually identified by its 'light-bulb' shape, which is also often verbally described an 'enlarged keyhole shape'. There is only one euro profile in terms of it's physical shape and scale, so there's no need to measure its height or width, the only dimension that changes is the length of the cylinder, and the position of the moving 'cam' and fastening screwhole somewhere near the middle of the cylinder.
Quite often the cam and centre screw do sit literally in the middle, you may have a 72mm overall cylinder length, and when you measure from each side to the centre of the cam or screw-hole, you get 36mm - happy days, you're lucky enough to have a very 'standard' size cylinder there! But equally as often, there will be an off-set centre to the cylinder, so when you measure it you may find you have a euro cylinder which is say 82mm overall, which measures 51mm from one end to the middle of the cam, and therefore only 31mm the other side. Again this is not uncommon, but it does limit your options as to what cylinders you can buy.
Luckily, whatever length of euro cylinder you have, and no matter what its 'centre offset' may be, we hand-build our high security cylinders to suit you, giving you a bespoke offering along with all the impressive security features they come with like anti-bump, anti-pick and anti-drill mechanisms, as well as the patent key protection etc. So in addition to not being limited by sizing, you're also getting some fantastic security features.
