Hi guys. My name's Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. And today we've got in front of us is the Union 2149 Euro Profile Dead Lock Case. Bit of a mouthful, I know. But that's what we have in front of us. So without further ado, let's get it up and let's get you having a look at it.
So, what we have here is quite surprising, you may see. It's actually a full-bodied case. It's what we call in the industry a 'full body'. In other words, what Union have done here is they've taken a sash lock case and basically just taken out the bits that is the sash version and just left the mortise version in there. Now, believe it or not, there's actually an advantage to that, because if you've got a customer whose got a sash lock already fitted but wants to fit a dead lock, of course this has the same case size. You just swap it over. So that's a distinct advantage.
One of the other advantages as well, somewhere else on one of our videos, you'll find that we actually took a video off the oval version. This is the Euro Profile version, but of the Oval version of the Silver Series range of Union Mortise lock cases. And what you'll find is that this footprint is exactly the same. So if you've got an old master key system using oval cylinders, and you need to put Euro cylinders in because this is the latest specifications, etc., well then, this would retrofit quite easily for you.
Now the lock case that I have here in front of me is the 2.5 inch version. That's the distance from the face plate to the back of the lock, is 2.5 inches. But it's also available in a 3 inch version as well, being an extra 13 millimetres or so deeper. So, it comes with some installation instructions, as standard. It comes with some fixings, as standard. It comes with this small face plate . . . sorry . . . small little striking keep here for the dead lock. That's as standard. And, of course, it comes with this face plate here that sits over that like that. Standard. It comes in two different finishes. It comes in either stainless steel or a brass finish, depending on what your application is.
So also, I don't know, if you want to zoom in here. I think it's important to let you guys know that Union have thought about the security on this lock a little bit. And what you'll find in there is you've got some roller pins. If you did try to hacksaw this bolt off by putting a hacksaw down through it, then as soon as it hits those pins, the hacksaw's going to bounce backwards and forwards on the pins as they spin. So, a little bit of security in regards to that.
The screw here at the bottom is to hold the cylinder into place. And, of course, then, that would hold it as you turn the lock. Now these are normally fitted for wooden doors. They can be fitted in loads of other different types of applications as well. But normally, a wooden door which is 35 by . . . sorry a 44 mil thick wooden door. By the time you look at escutcheons, as well, you'd look at a cylinder that would be a 35 by 35 or 70 mil overall.
So, without further ado, let me get some measurements for you guys. the fore-end width here is 25 millimetres, it's pretty industry standard these days. The fore-end depth is 150 millimetres, give or take a smidgen. As this being the 2.5 inch version, the case depth there is 64 millimetres. And the backset, that's from the face plate to where the centre of the keyhole would be. I'm getting somewhere in the region of about 44, 45 millimetres. The thickness of the plate . . . we'll just give you the thickness of the actual lock itself is 16 millimetres. So there you go. Like I've said, available in two different sizes: 2.5 inch and 3 inch. Also available in a brass or a satin chrome sort of style finish . . . a stainless steel finish. Yeah. What more can I say? Has its uses . . . .
