This mortice nightlatch offers fantastic functionality that can be particularly advantageous for access control systems where electric door releases are being used to grant access. There are of course other reasons you may be looking to use this type of mortice nightlatch but this, for us, is the most common application.
The reason these are ideal for this type of application is that they have an 8mm spindle as well as accepting a euro profile cylinder, where both will allow you to retract the latch fully to open the door. This allows you to choose that from outside, there may be no handle, or just a pull handle (or push plate depending on which way your door opens), and the euro cylinder allowing keyholders to gain access, whilst visitors have to press a buzzer through to reception, or staff have to swipe their card or enter a key code on your access control system to then push the door open during working hours etc..
From the inside then you have a few choices.. You can either opt to have a double euro cylinder, meaning that on the inside you'd have a keyhole too allowing for keyholders to use their key to exit if this is necessary for you, or you can stick to a just single sided cylinder (or 'half' cylinder as it is sometimes known) offering key-override from the outside, while on the inside then making use of the thumbturn snib we offer along with this lock, or indeed a lever handle or similar that will operate that follower via an 8mm square spindle. It is important to note here that if you choose the first option, then you need to give your other visitors a way to get out - a push to exit button perhaps - and which ever means you choose, always offer an emergency release method, such as a call point (a 'break glass unit').
The choice is absolutely yours. But as you can see, there's a whole range of different ways this can be used that can be very valuable when fitting an access control system.
Looking at the nightlatch itself, this is a high quality, performance rated solution and as such has been granted a 10 year guarantee! To compliment this level of quality it has also been fire-tested under BS EN 1634-1:2000 which may also be of importance to many installers.
It is available in two different sizes, a 65mm body (roughly 2.5") with a 47.5mm backset (that's the distance from the faceplate to the centre of the euro profile), and then a 77.5mm body (roughly 3") with a 60mm backset measurement. The centres between the square follower and the centre of the rounded part of the euro profile is just 34mm. So this is quite a compact and diverse solution that works for so many applications.
Rebate kits are available on-request, but these would be a special order and would need discussing prior to ordering.
