Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. The product we're looking at today is, to be honest with you, one of the most stable forms of locking solutions in the UK that actually anybody can get. It's the actual P1109 replacement cylinder that's designed for 90 to 100% of the Yale type locks.

I use the word "Yale type locks" that are out there. The latch type locks. In this country known as Yale, the technical term for them is night latches, but we know them as Yale locks. That's what we'll know. And that's all from the guy Linus Yale who made these. I think he was Canadian but I could be stood corrected. When he made the pin tumbler lock from all those years and years ago. I'm going to have to get the old encyclopaedia out and remember all of that from when I was training.

But nevertheless, this is the actual replacement cylinder here. I say it's the staple because if you've got a Yale lock the chances are that this is the type of cylinder that you're going to have on the outside of your door that you put your key in everyday to open your door and go home and have your tea, etc. And when you close the door behind you, it'll automatically lock, and then you need the key in which to get in. This is a replacement cylinder, and there are hundreds of different manufacturers now producing replacement cylinders, they're that popular. But at least this is the genuine article.

This is Yale's own version. This is the P1109. They're available in both brass and a satin silver chrome finish that you see here with me today. They also come with the security rows that sits over that. Again, because it's a Yale product, you can feel that even in that rows there, the quality is there. I mean, there's a lot of imports coming into this country these days and you know, when you play around with the imported ones the quality just isn't there. But fair dibs again to Yale. You know, if your budget allows, buy a genuine product and this is what it is.

It comes as standard with two keys as standard. These can be key dyed, no problem at all. We can do that for you so you can have a whole myriad of these rim cylinders all on the same key. And we can also master key them as well. Just pop us over an email and we'll have a chat with you about master keying diversity and so forth.

It comes as standard with two screw fixings as well to allow you to screw on the back. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to get some measurements and anybody who's familiar with fitting any form of locks will be incredibly familiar with this particular product, but if this is the first time that you're thinking, "Oh, I'm going to tackle changing my locks myself, then let me give you some sort of talk to ask to what you need to be aware of.

You'll notice here that there's loads of little serrations that go across this cam bar here. And the idea of that is that you would cut that off depending on how thick your door is. All right? So you may not have to. It depends on how thick it is, and it all depends if there's any gap in the actual lock itself. But mostly, you may have to cut this off, and what those strips allow you to do is to cut it off easily and when you're really skilled at it, you can actually use pliers and just go quick like that and you can actually snap them off on those serrations if you're quick at it. But I suggest use a hacksaw if it's the first time that you're playing around with that.

Also, what I'll do is I'll give you some sort of measurement. So from the face there, all the way to the back of the lock which is quite important there, I'm measuring 75 mm. Okay? A standard door is say, 44 mm, so there's 44 mm there, so therefore, you'll be probably cutting off half of that there, off depending on the type of lock or application that you've got. And of course, these screws again can be cut off, but I mean you may need to cut them back a little bit, or it may be fine and you may not need to.

So there you go guys, not really much that can be said about it other than if you want the genuine article, and you want something with a bit of degree of quality and so forth and your budget will allow, by all means, consider a genuine P1109. It's one of the stablemates of the locking industry in the UK. They're probably sold by the hundreds of thousands, if not millions throughout the years. But yeah, available on our website. And like I said, master key, keying all that, it's not a problem for us.

But listen, if you're still not 100% sure, you need a bit more information or you want to find out a little bit more about any of the products on our website, feel free to pop us over an email. Give us a call. You can speak to me direct, no problem at all. Or you can speak to one of the guys in the sales team. We're all pretty knowledgeable on the range of stuff that we have on our website. Alternatively, we'd love to see you as a customer. That would be really good as well. So come back and visit us real soon. So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, take care and we'll catch up to you real soon. Bye, bye now.
