Hi guys, my name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we're looking at a product manufactured by Era. It's the 801. It's the Snaplock that's designed for wooden windows, and so forth. Here it's the actual Snaplock here, as you can see here.
Now, the way that this actually sits and works, it's designed for a casement window, a window that opens out like that, more so. The idea is that you would fit that onto the frame, you would screw yourself down two holes, like that, and this, then, would be situated on the actual window itself.
So the idea is that when the window closes, that automatically gets pushed into the keep like that. As it does so, it clicks and locks into position, so therefore, you don't need a key in which to lock the window. You'll only need a key in which to unlock it after. If you put the key in here like that, that opens up the jaws and allows you to open it back up again. It's as simple as that. Of course, one of the benefits of this particular type of window lock is, purely and simply, is that it snaps locked. So when you go to close all your windows at night and you want to close them down for the evening etc., you know that, as you go around, you close the window behind you, you know it's automatically locked and you would then just need a key, then, to open it the next time.
What seems to happen, sometimes, is that if you need a key to lock a window, you can have a tendency after a short period of time to think to yourself, 'Ah, well, yeah, I'll lock it later.' Of course, time moves on and you forget about it, and of course, then you're vulnerable to risk there. Of course, the beauty with this, is it locks shut all the time.
It also comes with this little bit of a wafer. The idea of this wafer is that, some window sills, or window parts of the casement, might be slightly chamfered. This is a little wedge they've supplied with it that allows, then, to take that little bit of a displacement out. If there's a bit of a wedge in your windows, then this allows you, then, to line it up a little bit better, and therefore then, making sure this lock sits horizontal. Now, there's no reason why this couldn't sit on the side and have it half way up the window. It's entirely up to you where you think that you need to have this fitted. Okay? That's the reason for that.
Now, this particular version, it comes with the Era standard key. It can also come, there's an option as well, to have it with a cut key that you could then have in keyed alike groups, should you so wish.
This is fine for insurance purposes. It's ideal for keeping all of your ground floor windows closed.
One of the other distinct advantages of this, as well, it's also available in white. It's the white version that we have here, but it's also available in a brown and also a gold version, as well. If you've got gold or brass sort of window furniture, etc., then maybe the brass one will be right for you. Of course, if you've got white, and so on, and if it's brown, again, you have the brown choice.
What I'll do, is I'll get some measurements here for you now, just to give you some sort of idea. The width there is 65 mm, the actual thickness of the actual lock itself is, I'm going to say that's round about 18 mm there. The overall width from the centre, right to the end there, if I get that for you, it's 35 mm there, as you can see. The height there, that's thereabouts 18 mm there, as you can see. This is the keep and that would actually sit in there, no problem at all. I'll just get a quick measurement on the thickness of that, it's probably a couple of millimetres. Yeah, it's round about 2 mm thick, so there you go.
It comes with its fixings, as well, that's in the back of the packet there. It comes with some caps, then, to fit over those holes. Once you've actually screwed it on to your window, you could use those caps, then, to fill up the holes and it will look neat and tidy.
