This mortice type strike release by GEM has been designed for and tested in accordance with fire resistance standards BS EN 1634-1:2014 and BS EN 1363-1:2012, making it an ideal solution for scenarios where access control is required on a fire door.
With its stainless steel construction, rigorous endurance testing to over 250,000 cycles, and impressive holding force of 680kg (1,500 lbs), this is a truly robust and solidly built door release mechanism, and what's more, it can still operate with up to 227kg of side-load pressure on the door (thats an impressive 500lbs of preload).
What's more, these strike releases offer a monitoring output also; which means you can use the separate output from the strike to allow a monitoring system or similar, to know whether or not the trigger inside the strike (which is activated by the latch entering it), is being compressed or not.
Capable of accommodating a full 12mm of latch throw, the jaw on these is suited to most latches when considering the standard gap between the door and the frame, and of course with fire door use in mind, these come as fail-safe, so in the event of power failure the latch can simply pass through the strike.
These impressive features lend themselves well to fire door implementation and for this reason, is predominantly where you would find these strikes being used.
If installing any components into a fire door or its frame, always fit in accordance with the standards that apply to your fire door. Intumescent protection should be seriously considered to maintain the integrity of a fire door setup.
