Hi, guys. My name is Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at Locks Online. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and watch one of our product review videos. Now we're putting these short little videos together to be able to give you, our customers, the opportunity to see the products that we have to offer in, hopefully, a little bit more detail and hopefully, help you make a bit better of an informed decision as to whether or not this is the product that you're looking for.
Now today, I want to show you a concealed door closer that we have on our website. What's quite unique about this particular closer is it does allow a degree of hydraulic forms of closing. So in other words, it's not like a slam type of sprung load of door closer. There is actually a degree of closing in regards to how smooth it does close. So it has its complete USP’s in that respect. Also with this particular type of closer as you can see here, it also has the ability to speed up the latching action right at the very end to make sure then that the door closes into the latched closed position.
Now this is the Astra concealed door closer. It's the 1000 series. It's available in a brass or a chromed finish as you can see here. Now the reason for this clip here is this should stop the actual closer from going in all the way, so when you go to fit it, you need to make sure that this is kept in its position. If you want to be able to take it out, then you need to put this in its place, so then therefore it allows you to unscrew it out of the door. So if I was to let that go now, there would be all hell to play, so to speak, and try to get this apart to pop it back in until it's fitted in the door. So it's very crucial that you're aware of that. Now, like I said, one of the distinct advantages with this particular closer is on the edge here, on the back side of it so to speak, is you have this ability to be able to adjust that final closing speed. You can turn this in or out and that will allow you either speed up or slow down the final latching action. So that's what gives you that degree of adjustability.
Now the actual pipe thickness here, if you're thinking that you need to drill yourself a hole, the actual pipe thickness there is about 25 millimetres, so you're probably going to need to be drilling at least a 26 millimetre hole. And the actual overall length, given in take as well that you need to be considering that little projection at the back there, you want to be going in at least 185 millimetres into your door. So that is well worth you knowing that. The actual face plate thickness as well here is about 32 millimetres and, of course, that is going to be 32 millimetres there as well. So, therefore, then it is really designed to work on a fire rated door. This is actually a fire rated closer for your information. It's designed to work on a traditionally standard 44 mil thick door, so I think you may struggle if you try to fit this on any internal door that's only 38 millimetres. There's not going to be much wood left by the time you try to fit that I must admit.
So here's what we want to do as well is here's the instruction manual that is supplied with the product. If I hold it up, and by all means, pause the video, and then you can have a look at this information and you may find that if you're thinking this is absolutely ideal, this might give you the opportunity now to be able to see the instructions on how to install it. There's some more information as well on the reverse so I'll then turn that around then for you to have a look at the reverse when we're just ready there.
So if I pop that around there like that, there is some do's and dont's in regards to installing this. So if you're thinking this is what you want to be able to do, as I've said, pause the video, and it will give you a quick opportunity to read what it says in regards to its do's and its don'ts. So just give that a few seconds or so there. There you go. So that will give you an opportunity, as I've said, pause to allow you to view that in a little bit more detail.
So there you go, guys. It's just one of the products we have on our website. It's quite unique and if you want to be able to have a door closer in the door, not necessarily have all this slamming and so forth that you get from the extreme loaded type of concealed closer that you may get for a few pounds, this might be something you really want to consider. But if you need more information on this or any of products we have, pop us over an email, use the live chat that we have, or pick up the phone and give us a call. Either way, we'd love to hear from you. And more important, we'd love to see you as one of our customers. So from me, Darrel, and all of us at the team, thanks for taking the time to tune in, and I hope to catch up with you real soon. Take care. Bye-bye.
