This is the highest security combination padlock made by KASP. Boasting an 11mm thick hardened molybdenum steel shackle, double-bolted into a reassuringly weighty hardened steel body, these four-wheel combination padlocks combine the convenience of keyless combination code access, with all the physical elements required of a high security padlock.
What's most impressive and reassuring about these combination padlocks is that the investment of effort into the security of these padlocks has clearly been taken seriously and hasn't been skimped on. And to back this, they come with an impressive 10 year guarantee as standard.
Typically when looking at so many combination padlocks, the quality of the padlock itself can often seem as though it's had less investment than that of comparable key-operated padlock, which can be both disheartening and concerning with regards to security. But with these padlocks, it's clear straight out of the packaging that they've been well built, and on closer inspection to the finer details, it's simply all there - so lets go into a bit more detail!
Both the open shackle version and the closed shackle version both use the 11mm hardened molybdenum steel shackle - this sounds impressive but in case you don't really know why this is important, here's a little more detail:
Molybdenum is a highly ductile metal, so it does not get brittle or weak when distorted which makes it an incredibly useful material for strengthening up a padlock a shackle! In addition to this, is has one of the highest melting points of all the elements, which gives some perspective on how stable and strong this material really is.
On an interesting note, molybdenum is technically also a micronutrient that is essential for natural life - but we really don't recommend you try eating it..!
Inside the padlock body then lies the double-bolting push-release mechanism that secures the shackle in place. This mechanical bolting mechanism secures the shackle on both sides (as opposed to just on the opening side as many less secure padlocks would do), and releases with a push-down of the shackle when all four combination wheels are set at the correct position. This mechanism also seems to make hard work of trying to discover the code using the most common combination padlock manipulation tactics, which is very good to know.
The padlock body itself is again made from solid hardened steel which is electro-plated for weather resistance, complimented by all rust-free internal components and an internal drainage system, making this a superb high security outdoor combination padlock.
Looking at the combination locking aspect of these padlocks, you'll see it's a four-wheel combination system, which offers highly visible engraved numbers, with clear setting / stopping points when rotating the wheels, making entering your code as hassle-free as possible with minimal failed entries.
Changing the code on your KASP High Security Combination Padlock
Changing the combination code on these padlocks could not be simpler, and can be achieved in a matter of seconds.
Each padlock is supplied with a combination change key. This key is useless without the original code, so there's no concerns there in terms of key-uniqueness.
Step 1 - Enter your current combination and press down on the shackle to allow it to release.
Step 2 - With the shackle still open, push the change-key all the way into the small keyhole on the side of the padlock, and rotate the key 90°.
Step 3 - With the shackle still open and the change-key still in the turned position, rotate the combination wheels to your desired new combination code.
Step 4 - Making sure the numbers are perfectly set and lined up to avoid mis-coding, rotate the change-key back 90° and remove the key. This is now your new code. Keep a record of this number!
