BREAKING NEWS, January 2021 – Latest research from University of Southampton shows copper touch surfaces rapidly inactivate SARS-CoV-2 in less than ONE MINUTE. Click here to learn more.
In an effort to help control the spread of viruses and pathogens on high risk surfaces such as combination doorlocks, Borg have made the world’s first copper-touch combination locks, named their "Cu-Shield" range. The Cu-Shield has been carefully designed, manufactured and patented by Borg Locks to encase the complete digital lock. It is not an applied finish or surface coating; they are physically forged and machined from a high-content copper alloy (minimum 60% copper content), and has also been tested to ISO 22196:2011.
This comes at a time where many workplaces are seeking out ways to help make their premises as 'Covid-Secure' as possible in an effort to help slow the spread of Corona Virus.
The clever use of copper for these locks means that these are not just anti-bacterial or anti-viral like many alternative solutions being offered, copper is in fact a biocide, meaning it's naturally anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and even anti-microbial. What's more, as it's a copper alloy being used, Borg have been able to finish these locks in a way which looks more like a light brushed brass finish rather than a bold copper colour, which is a really nice touch and we feel it makes for a truly stunning result.
Extensive scientific research demonstrates that pathogens (including corona viruses) are proven to be rapidly and completely destroyed on contact with copper and copper alloys, under typical indoor usage conditions. This is a stark contrast to other popular metallic door hardware materials, on which pathogens persist for several days.
There is significant national and international press coverage of the benefits of copper and copper alloys and their role in helping to reduce the spread of infection in healthcare and in the wider community.
The Cu-Shield will retain its rapid kill properties against known pathogens, despite natural oxidisation, which may occur over time. Copper alloys offer long term antimicrobial performance that last the lifetime of the product. We would recommend routine cleaning of the product to ensure that a layer of dirt is not allowed to build up which may inhibit the effectiveness of the biocide properties of the copper content.
This is the most key-override model, which features the door-knob style operation with keypad entry from outside, and a small pad style handle on the other for free exit from inside.
This combination lock incorporates Borg's EasyCode Pro (ECP) code changing facility, whereby you can change the code on the door in as little as ten seconds, without the need to remove the housing and fiddle with the pins in the combination chamber. A very sought after feature on combination locks, and now incorporated into these Cu-Shield models as standard.
Supplied with a 60mm tubular dead-latch (deadlocking latch to prevent slipping), everything's supplied in the box to get you up and running with your combination lock on either wooden or composite doors fitted internally or indeed in sheltered external environments.
