Available in three different backset sizes, we have the narrow 35mm backset model, the standard 45mm backset model, and the larger 55mm backset model; each having their own benefits.

On larger or wider doors, as well as very in-set doors where the frame is quite prominent, you may typically see a 55mm backset multipoint lock on the door, as it keeps the handles well away from the frame for easy access and also looks more logical on larger doors.

For smaller doors, or doors with a narrow stile due to panes of glass or in-set decorative panels, you may see the smaller 35mm backset locks; this is purely due to the restriction of space available for the lock, where a larger overall depth may not fit into the door without breaking into the space where the glass panes or decorative wood panels sit.

With most wooden and composite doors however, the 'norm' is the 45mm backset.  This is a very typical backset and even emulates that of the standard 44mm backset found on standard mortice locks such as sashlocks and deadlocks.

These multipoint locks have dual spindle operation, so rather than having one spindle sitting through the lock into a pair of handles, you would require off-set handles designed to operate two separate followers.  The PZ centres for these are 92mm and 62mm.  This is very much the 'industry standard' for an offset PZ measurement.
