Hi guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a quick look at one of our product review videos. We've put these short little videos together to be able to give you, our customers the opportunity to see the products that we have to offer in a little bit more detail perhaps, in the flesh. And allow you to be able to make a bit better of an informed decision as to whether or not this is the particular product you're after.

Today we're going to show you a rim latch that's available. The manufacturer is Union. It's their model 1037 and this is the actual lock. It's an incredibly popular rim lock that they do and because of that they are always available in loads of different finishes. This is the brass and champagne finish that this particular rim lock has, and it's what we call in the industry the narrow style version. I'm going to explain that to you in a little more detail.

The narrow style means that from the leading edge to where the key would go in, in other words where the cylinder would sit into this hole here, in the industry these days there's two standard sets. There's 40 millimetres and there's also one a little bit wider that's called a standard and that's the 60 millimetres. This particular one here is what we call the 40 mil, in other words the narrow style version.

On this particular lock also it has a dead locking facility. What happens is when you close the latch into the actual keep, this is the keep here, this particular black piece here gets pushed in by a nodule that is in the actual keep itself. In doing that, it actually dead locks then the latch, and what that effectively means is that if anybody tried to use a bit of fishing mica or something to try to slip the lock, that's going to stop that from happening. I don't know if you can zoom in there. I'll try to get that in a little more detail.

When you're fitting this particular lock, you need to be quite accurate in regards to how that actually fits there. I don't know if you can get that there. It's quite hard because I'm having to enclose and hide it to show its operation. That's the principle of that. It has all the standard features that you would expect by holding up the latch etc. on here and so forth. It has all of those particular functions as well.

Another distinct advantage of this particular type of one that you need to be aware of as well is that there's a little nodule there that's in the actual cam keep here. You'll see that there's also an arrow. I don't know if you can get the detail there. That arrow and those two need to be aligned. Therefore then you have the ability from outside, once you go out, you can pop the key in the door, give it one complete revolution and what will happen in effect is it will dead lock then the handle as well. If you've got a glass door and you feel a bit concerned that somebody might smash the glass in and put their hand in and operate the handle, then of course by turning that, effectively dead locks the handle as well. There's a lot of security features on this particular lock in respects to that.

Union as a manufacturer, what I'm really happy to see as well for how long, I don't really know, but on this fixing plate here we of course have the bottom there. It's still made in England, so well done the Brits in respects to that.

The keys that come with it, it comes standard with two keys as you can see here. This is the actual rim cylinder. These are the fixings here that will be able to be screwed into the cylinder there like that.

Let's get some quick little measurements on this particular lock because it'll give you an idea as to the thickness of the door etc., that you can fit this on. If you can imagine, this is the rows that will sit on there like that. If I was to get a measurement of the overall length of that, you can see there that we're getting up to the end of the thing, about 75 millimetres. This is going to fit on a 44 or a 55 millimetre door no problem at all. There wouldn't be any concerns in regards to fitting it on an external door in that respect.

There you go guys. There's not much more that I can actually think about that would help you there. As you can see, it has all of those security features and functionality as you can expect. This fixing plate, very quickly just sits in there like that. Then you would screw those screws in there after you've actually assembled it onto the door.
