Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at Locks Online.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and watch one of our product review videos.
The product we have here today is the Yale 82 Series Dead Bolt now this is a rim lock that sits on the door but it acts like a deadbolt. So one of the distinct advantages of this particular type of lock is that if you want to close the door but you don't actually want it to lock, in other words you'd have to get a key to get back in again, like a traditional Yale night latch would, then this may be the boy for you because what you would need to do to actually work this lock you need to put your key in from the outside and throw the bolt over and from the inside as well you need to actually throw the handle over that throws the bolt over into the frame.
So it has a lot of usages and this is the actual lock here in all its glory really. The idea is quite simple. If I operate this handle here like that, it throws the bolt out and it's a substantial bolt as you can see there, it's a normally large bolt in all its glory there and if I rotate it back the other way I obviously retract the bolt and exactly the same principle of functionality would work if I was to put that in there, I should be able to turn it the other way so I'm mimicking the operation of what you would expect to do with your key there.
All right. So that's the basic operation of how it actually works. Now, this comes in what we call in the industry, a standard backset size that's the distance from the face plate to actually where the cylinder would be drilled in through the door and that is a standard 60 millimetres. Okay. It can actually be bought as a case only as well. You may have a range of cylinders that are under a master key system or keyed alike, etc., and it may be the actual bolt or the actual lock that you are looking for. It also comes with a substantial keep. This is the actual keep that you would fit on to the frame as well and of course if I was to throw that bolt there, then that would sit in there no problem at all.
What I'll do now is I'll get some measurements for you. It comes with fix and screws and so forth but what I'll do now is I'll get some measurements for you just in case you might want to check your measurements to see whether or not this will fit on your door.
The overall case depth is 92-93 millimetres. The case height there is 70 millimetres. This bolt is a significant bolt as well is 32 millimetres high by 15 millimetres deep and it projects out a whopping 20 millimetres out of the frame. So by the time you put your door in there as well get yourself your two penny gap. There's a little meat there. There's a lot of thickness of bolt into the actual keep there that is keeping your door secure.
