Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a quick look at one of our product review videos. I put these short little videos together to give you, our customers, the opportunity that we have to offer and hopefully a little bit more detail then you may get just from a picture etc.
Today I want to show you a Yale styled night latch that available on our website that's probably the staple when it comes to wooden doors in the U.K. This is the type of lock that you probably would see.
Now, this particular one is the Yale 88. It's the most traditional and most standardised night latch that you can get. In other words, you don't have the deadlocking facility from outside on this particular one. So from the inside you are able to obviously operate it by the handle there to be able to open the door. You can also, by all means, pop in that down there like that can hold it back. That's pretty standard these days, and you also have the ability to deadlock the handle there from the inside.
Now, there is a another version of this particular lock that allows you from the key, from the outside to put the key in and rotate it one complete revolution, take the key out and that would deadlock it. So when you're on the outside, you can also deadlock it if you needed to do so. It comes as standard here with its keep, as you can see here. I always try and encourage you to get the two penny gap there between the two when you're fitting it, because it means that this would smoothly pop itself into its keep there lovely and nice and tidy.
Now, this particular version here is the 60-millimetre back set version. There are two different back sets available — in the industry standard of 60 mil or 40 mil. The measurement is taken from the leading edge here to the centre of where the cam is going to sit there. As you can see there, that's going 60 mil. Now, that's pretty universal when it comes to these particular types of locks in the country. There are always a few exceptions to the rule. Chubb has a few exceptions in that respect.
You get this fixing plate as well. This particular plate here would set onto the door and invariably then what you would do is you'd have your cylinder here and then you'd be able to hold your cylinder into place here through the door by those screws. They are holding into holes there, as you can see. This cam, then, would sit through into here like that and then allow you to then be able to operate the key to be able to withdraw the latch there, as you can see that. That's that basic principle, the basic operation of it.
This particular part, once it's actually fitted to the actual door, then you've got the screws here in which to hold this plate on the door and you've got the little fixing screws in here that allows you to screw this then onto the plate here, and therefore that then completes the installation.
Once I've got this in my hand here, let's get a few quick measurements for you. The overall case size of this particular one here is about 93 millimetres. The case height there is 70 millimetres. The projection, how much it comes off the door there, is roughly around about 27 millimetres for the stand.
So, there you go, guys. Just one of the products that we have on our website, but listen, if you need a bit more information, if you want a bit more of advice on this or any of the products that we have, by all means, pop us over an email, use the live chat that we have, or simply do the old fashioned way and pick up the phone and give us a call. We'd love to hear from you and I'd love to see you as a customer. So from me, Darrel, and all of us at the team, thanks for taking the time to tune in and catch you real soon now. Bye.
