Hi, guys. My name's Darrel. I'm head of the Tech Team here at
LocksOnline.co.uk and we're going to do some product reviews for you today.
So, the one that we've got here at this moment in time is the Union 2332
Mortise Night Latch. Now, the Union 232 Mortise Night Latch is the stable
mate of night latches that are mortised into the door that is used a lot in
access control applications and so forth.
Let me take it out of the box and we'll see what you get as the standard
piece of kit and we'll go through what all the bits and pieces are. So, if
we open up the box here. Now, these particular type of latches [can go],
they come in the case only or they come as the funnel kit. So, you get the
cylinder, which is here. You got the knob turn, which is there, and then
you get the actual lock case, which I'm going to take out of its wrapping
now.
So, let's concentrate and have a look at this for starters. As you can see
here, we've got a mortise lock. It mortises into the door, and this is
either retracted by either the cylinder, which we'd obviously sit on the
outside or it can be retracted from a turn and if I take this turn out...
so if the door was closing like that, you could have this turn on the
inside here that would allow you then to open up the door from the inside
lock, alright?
All right, okay, so from the outside, you would have a key. There's the key
there in the box and that would sit in there, so you would be able to
operate the latch from the outside with the key and from the inside you can
use the turn. Now that size, it comes as a standard, but you can if you
want to just buy the lock case and you can, if you want to, then just go
for an oval cylinder with a turn on the inside or cylinder both sides, or
just a single cylinder.
You can have it a part of a master key cylinder or you might have your own
range of cylinders that you want. So, it comes in those two particular type
of options. It comes in two different finishes. It comes as standard in
either brass or a stainless steel finish. This is the brass version here
and in here is the plate that you'll see here that sits on here. Okay?
Now, one of the other advantages with this particular type of mortise night
latch is that you can hold the latch back by putting a little clip in
there. So, on the leading edge of the lock if you look at that, there
there's this little snip. I don't know if you can zoom in on that, Lee, and
get it in there. That can actually hold the latch back if you're wanting to
have free access in and out.
Now, a lot of these are used on commercial sort of doors where it's a form
of passive security for access control, simply because it just works like
an ordinary latch, but allows key access from one side and a turn to get
out. You can fit a strike release and so forth on these. Now they come in
two different sizes. They come in either a three inch case and that's the
size of the case, three inches across there, okay or two and a half inch
case. So it depends on what size is your style as to what size case suits
you.
The follower, in other words, where the handle goes in, or the turn, that
comes as standard. That is eight millimeters, so if you need to put a
different type of handle in there, then the follower, the spindle here is
eight millimeters, okay? So, that's the size of that. So yeah, again, this
is a great little product. It's universal and used in loads and loads of
different applications. It's used a lot in the access control industry, as
suggested before, and yeah, if you like it, consider it. That's great.
Appreciate your time. Thank you very much. Bye, bye now.
