Hi guys, my name's Darrell. I'm head of the tech team here at
LocksOnline.co.uk and we're product reviews today and, more importantly,
we're doing a product review of the Union and this is the disabled handle
that's available from Union. So let's get it out of the box and let's have
a look at it in a bit more detail to find out exactly what is in this box.
So what are they used for? They're used for disabled toilets where you've
got this big lever handle, so it's easy for somebody to grab hold of and be
able to lock and unlock the door. And one of the distinct advantages of
this particular type of setup as well is that it will also work on a
sliding door. You might find that a lot of disabled toilets now may have
sliding doors, purely and simply because they might be restricted with
space because a disabled toiled needs at least a meter size door in which
to get a wheelchair in.
So here we go, let's have a look at what we get inside the box. We get
that. We get some different types of keeps there. These are handed so if
you're thinking of getting one, you need to make sure whether or not it's
the left hand or the right hand version that you're looking for. Now they
also as well, while I'm pulling these out of their bags, they come standard
with an anti-bacterial coating on it. The idea is that every time you touch
it, it actually has this film over it that actually kills the bacteria on
your hands so the next person who comes along, if you haven't cleaned your
hands or they haven't cleaned their hands, at least you know that this
bacterial film on here will clean it all up for you.
So it comes with a set of fixings. This is the actual handle itself and if
you'll notice there, it's got a big pop there. So the idea is that when
you're using the door, you can actually just lift the handle up like that
and depending on the type of keep that you've got. You've got this
particular type of keep here, which is just a groove, this would obviously
be used for a hinge door. But if you've got a sliding door, then the idea
is this little hump here will hook into the bottom of this particular type
of keep that you can then moor this into the frame. Leave it sit in there
like that. I don't know if I can this out [inaudible 0:02:22]. The other
one is pretty self explanatory. Let's get this out of here. So that's the
actual frame for a sliding door. And these are actually used quite a lot
for sliding doors because they have those distinctive [inaudible 0:02:42],
so once it goes in then, you have the ability then to lock the door. And
then to unlock it then, they just drop the handle like that, and of course
then the door will slide.
From the outside here, you do have the indicator here, which will then
indicate whether or not red is for that it's being occupied and of course
white, then, if it's not occupied. You've also got a little marker here
which, they call it the two penny [inaudible 0:03:09]. You can put a
screwdriver in and you can actually override the lock from the other side
no problem at all.
This little piece here sits in here and this is in theory, then, the pull
handle, you can sit on there like that and this would then be the pull
handle depending on how you wanted to work the door, pull it or so forth or
slide. So yeah, these are very, very popular. Now that disabled doors, you
can use pocket sliding doors, then this would be suitable for your
application.
I'm going to quickly go over some measurements here whilst I've got it out
here just to make sure whether or not it'll suit your application. So we'll
get some quick overall measurements for you just to give you some sort of
idea. The height to back now, the overall height of this particular handle
is 120 millimeters. The width of this particular size one is about 38
millimeters. The overall distance from the centre here to the end, I'll get
a measurement there now just to give you some sort of idea. We're looking
at 155 millimeters thereabouts. The size of the bolt that sticks out there,
I got that in at 40 millimeters. And then the distance from here then to
that little hump there which is obviously go inside the door, that there is
32 millimeters. So the thickness of this here, probably not significant,
this is going to be two millimeters. Actually a little bit more than that,
about three millimeters. So that ought to give you some sort of idea as to
where you need to position this handle depending on this particular part
here.
Like I said, yeah, very popular. We sell them by the bucket loads because
of the new type of pocket doors that are being used on disabled toilets.
And available on LocksOnline.co.uk. I hope this little product review and
showing you all the different bits and pieces is helping you make a
considered opinion as to whether or not this particular lock is suitable
for your application. But in the mean time, if you've got any advice or you
want any more advice or anything, pop us over an e-mail or similarly pick
up the phone and have a chat with us. We'd love to talk to you. Appreciate
your time and thank you very much for watching this video. Bye-bye now.
