These tubular latches are manufactured by Legge and are a simple solution to adding a passive method of keeping internal doors closed. While these don't offer any real security, the primary function is simply to latch doors closed, and having said that, the 79mm case sizes do also come with Legge's locking slot, so if used with a LEGGE 14 thumbturn, you can optionally lock the latch.

With optional rebate kits available further down the page, the scope of use on these is quite varied, allowing for use on rebated / double-doors where the doors meet together in the centre.

Available in Polished Brass and Nickel Plated finishes on the faceplates, the rebate kits are available in both finishes to match this.

Hi guys. Thanks for tuning in. My name's Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. And today we're looking at the LK range of Tubular Latches from Legge.

So this is the actual latch itself. This is the 95 millimetre version. In other words, the case depth is 95 millimetres. It is available also in a 74 millimetre version as well. So they have their distinct advantages and one of their advantages of having this long case here like that is that if you plan on using a set of knobs, on your door, then you can get the knob away from the leading edge. Which means that if you've ever used a knob that's close to the door, the end of the door, you end up, when you try closing it, your knuckle ends up catching the door frame. So the advantage of having this particular type allows you to get this knob far away.

Now, the maufacturer say you should use sprung loaded knobs for these or sprung loaded furniture. That's what the manufacturer say. Now, it's available in two different finishes. This white coat that's over this is a protective coat, but this is the brass finish. And of course it's also available then in a silver finish as well. Now the LK on this particular range of tubular latches do actually mean something. And the LK stands for 'Lockable Version'. And many, many years ago, this particular version, they used to have, if my memory serves me right, I think it was called number 47. But they used to have a little assembly that sat here on the door.

So they were used for privacy locks. So you could use the same tubular latch on all your handles throughout your whole of your door but when it came to your bathroom or your toilet you could have this little turn that you could have fitted, that fitted through this hole here, and the idea is then that if you pop into the toilet, you could turn the turn and then this would actually stop this from being opened. And I don't know if you can actually zoom in there close enough, Lee. I think it'll be a mammoth task. But if I was to try and push that down there, like that, I don't know can actually see inside there, but there's a blockage there that stops it. That if you were to turn that turn then it would stop this latch from operating by the handle.

Then of course if you turned it back it would go flat and allow the handle to work. Now I don't think, and I could be stood corrected, but those turns are no longer available. But it may be that you're wanting to replace your latch and you do have these little turns. Well it's the LK version that you need to be considering.

So to give you some more measurements on this particular one, the backset on the 95 millimetre, all of the measurements are online, so you know you can measure up as free as you want. But to give you some sort of idea as to what those measurements mean, the backset is from here to the centre of the spindle. This is the follower here or the spindle follower. That's 8 millimetres, by the way. And that is 76 millimetres there, from there to there, okay. The case height here is 22 millimetres. So if you think of fitting it from new, that's the size of the hole that you need to drill. Okay, the fore-end length from there to there is 57 millimetres, that's 57 millimetres. And that there is the fore-end width, which is 25 millimetres.

So, not really much more to say about this particular type of version except it has this distinct feature. If your door opens the opposite way, simple, you just turn it around, guys, and then you've got your handing there in the opposite way.

It comes as standard with a couple of fixing screws and of course then it comes with a plate. Of course, this white here is on here to protect the finish. Which is good. I think Legge has really gone out of their way to make sure that the finish is maintained so when the customer gets it, it's going to be lovely and petite inside. It comes standard now, the latch is still brass. I've seen a lot of latches coming out now using nylon etc., but we're still sporting a lovely brass latch there. So,

I hope this little video has allowed you to have a bit more of a considered opinion as to whether or not this particular latch is suitable for your application. But listen, you know if you want to email us, pop an e-mail over. If I've forgotten a measurement or I haven't mentioned something, you're not clear about something you need to have that clarification before you decide to purchase, pop an e-mail over, pick up the phone. We've got Live Chat now on our website. We can talk you through the day, no problem at all. You can speak to me directly if you want.

So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, appreciate your time, taking the time to have a look at this video, sorry. And hey, listen, we'd love to see you as a customer. But in the meantime, from me, hey take care. Bye-bye now.
