Hi guys. Thanks for tuning in. My name's Darrel, I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and today we've got the Union 26773 Horizontal Mortise Latch.
Now this is . . . When would you want to use this? It's more for if you want to be able to get the handle a little bit further away from the leading edge. That's the leading edge there. So it's a horizontal - we call it in the trade a horizontal latch. And it allows you to get your lever furniture quite a distance away. And this particular one here, the overall case depth there is 127 but they do do one as well which is 151. It's a little bit deeper so 151 millimetres.
Now if you're using furniture with this they don't recommend that you use unsprung furniture. So if you're thinking of putting some knobs or whatever on here, it might be well worth you considering using some sprung-loaded knobs. Which means they can be quite stiff but it might be well worth you playing around with that. They don't necessarily recommend it.
Now you will notice that there's a keyhole there guys. It's not because there is a key in here, it's just that they've used the same plate as the 3 lever Silver Series locking version of this particular type of lock. So it's not really a lock there at all. The follower here, this is what we call a follower. That is 8 millimetres and it'll take an 8 millimetre Spindle. To give you some measurements on this one, this is the 127 millimetre version, and the backset, that's the distance from here to here, is 102 millimetres. The height here is 70 millimetres, That's the height, there, is 70 millimetres. The fore-end height is 121 millimetres and the fore-end width there is 25 millimetres.
Now the one that I have here is in the brass finish but it's also available in a chrome finish or a silver finish as well, should you need to do so. It can also accept, if you noticed here, there's little piercings here and that will allow you to accept what they call bolt-through furniture. So if you've got any furniture like a rose handle or something like that, that is bolt through then these fixings there. I'll get you a quick measurement on that so you will know then, whether or not it's suitable. My centres there and looking there, guys, is round about 34, 35 millimetres. And there's a little bit of tolerance there, as you can see.
So yeah, not much to say about this particular type of, well, it's not a lock really it's just a latch. It comes standard with a keep there. This crazing over it just a cover to keep it all nice and tidy and it comes with some fixing screws as well.
