Hi guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for taking some time to tune in to one of our product review videos. The product that we have here in front of us today is the Union 2 Lever Rebated Mortise Sash Lock. I know that's a mouthful, but that's technically what the term of this particular lock is, so let me get it out of the bag, and we can have a look at it, and I'll explain to you how it's fitted and what you would use it for.
This is the actual lock itself, and as you can see here now, you can see that there's this funny face plate to it, and the idea of this face plate is to work with rebated doors. You may find on our website somewhere, we've done a video on what rebated doors are, and how to to measure rebates and so forth. Needless to say, this rebate here is measured by its depth, from there, to there, and the depth is 13 mm or half an inch or thereabouts.
Now, the idea of this particular setup is that you don't necessarily need to bother with getting yourself a rebate to work with it because it is actually blended to the actual lock itself. Now one of the things you need to be aware of, and it's very important, especially in these days, if I was talking 20, 25, 30 years ago, three lever locks were about the norm as to what you would expect to see on a final exit door. These days, guys, it's not secure enough. I've got to stress the importance of that. It's not secure enough when you look at the security and the crime that's around. So, it's not recommended that you use this lock on a final exit door.
I have seen in the industry when I was on the tools, this particular lock being used a lot on French doors and back French doors, etc. It's not up to the job. This particular type of lock is designed for internal doors between say your living room and your kitchen, or your lounge and your dining room, etc., and if you want a bit of privacy and you want to secure it. so LocksOnline, and me, Darrel, with all our years of experience, and it's too many to mention, wouldn't recommend it. It's up to you, though, it's entirely up to you. So that's the rebate and that's how it works.
Now, the measurements are on our site, and you can get the measurements from our site in regards to sizes. They're available in two different finishes. This is the silver finish, as you can see here, and this is the rebated part that you would see then on what we would call the secondary or the slave.
It comes standard with two keys and here's the two keys here. We'll get these out of there. Here's the two keys and it comes standard with two keys, and you can throw the key in there, and that's the bulk product there. All right?
There's not much more I can say, really, other than it gives you the opportunity to see the lock in the flesh, and it'll give you an informed decision as to whether or not this particular lock is suitable for your application. So hopefully this video can give you a bit more information. It comes with fixing screws, etc., and it also comes with installation instructions and so forth.
So, I've got to stress the importance guys, don't put this as a final exit door. Don't rely on this as being security for your final doors, your french doors on the back of your house. It's just not up to it with only it's two levers, okay? It's just not up to it.
So, from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the Tech Team, and all of the sales guys as well, can we take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to look at this video. I hope it's been informative. I hope we've given you a little bit more information, and, you know, if this is what you really want and this is the job for you, we'd love to see you as a customer. Thank you. So from me, and all of us, take care. Bye-bye.
