Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. The products that we have here in front of us today is a mortice latch. It's a rebated mortice latch by the Manufacturer's Union. It's the J2650 mortice latch.
Here's the actual latch itself now. To give you a bit more insight, it's actually got a rebate kit built into the actual latch itself. And you would normally use this, say for example you have a set of double doors going in between say your living room and your dining room and you want to be able to close them off and they're rebated together. This is the type of lock that would be ideally suited for you.
Now this is the two and a half inch version, and there are different versions available as well as different finishes. This is the polished chrome version, as you can see here. Now the depth of this rebate is what we would call. Rebates are measured by how deep the rebate is, and as you can see here, if I were to measure that there, we've got 30 millimetres, which is a standard half-inch rebate, which is pretty industry-standard these days. Rebates, you can get a bit higher to a three-quarter inch and also to an inch if you needed to. This is universally accepted as being a good all-around size for a rebate.
The size of the follower there is pretty industry standard as well at eight millimetres, and the backset from the leading edge to the actual centre of follower there is 45 millimetres, give or take a millimetre.
Now of course, as you can see here, the keep as well has been cut out as well, and that's been cut out specifically to sit in your door and to hide when you cut the timber out, this will actually hide that rough piece of timber that you would have on the other part of the rebate and make it look nice and tidy.
So, figures [SP] to Union. They've seriously thought about it a little bit, and they've managed to come up with a product that helps you not messing around with rebate kits, et cetera, but have actually put the rebate on the latch there, as you can see. The actual latch as well is made of nylon, which is incredibly durable, and of course, it doesn't require any lubrication because nylon is self-lubricating. A bit of water lubricates nylon.
So there you go, guys. Like I said, it's the Union. It's the J2650. It's available on our website now. But if there's a bit more information that you need or you want a bit more advice, or you're not 100% sure on anything, feel free to pop us over an email or use our live chat on our website. That's totally free. You can speak to me or any of the guys in the team. No problem at all. Just pick up the phone and give us a call. Either way, we'd love to hear from you, and more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer. So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, take care, and we will catch up with you real soon. Bye, bye now. Bye, bye.
