Hi guys, my name's Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for tuning in and watching one of our product review videos.
And today we've got the Willen lock-, the Willenhall Lock M8. It's quite a small little lock and it is ideal for doors that . . . the stile or in other words, the locking stile where you would fit the lock, is quite narrow. French doors, patio doors sort of applications where just ain't got that much meat to fit a lock.
And this is the guy here for you. One of the advantages of this lock obviously, is the fact is that its narrow. In other words, from there to there is only 2 inches, 60 millimetres. So you know, whereas most locks these days, they're 2.5, it starts at 2.5 inches and builds itself up to 3 inches or 4 inches and so on. So this is quite a narrow stile sort of lock. Okay? So it has its uses. It's also 5 lever and it comes a standard with three keys. Now 5 lever is probably the minimalist now you need to consider for an external security door.
The chances are that your insurance company may say that you need a British standard 3621 or an 8621 lock on all your external doors. Guys, this is not British standard. And you may need to speak to them to say 'listen we can't fit a British standard lock'. And one of the reasons why you can't is because the new British standard require the bolt throw be at least 22 millimetres. And of course that's nowhere near 22 millimetres. And just to give you a quick idea of how much that is, that's only 13 millimetres.
So it's not going to chuck out too far and one of the reasons for that is, is that because of the size of the body here it doesn't have the ability to throw that far out. So you will not now get a British standard lock on the market that is 2 inches in case that needs to throw a 22 millimetre bolt. It's just - the mechanics just isn't, can't do it. But it still has its uses and it still can be used but it maybe worth you having a talk with your insurers to make sure they're happy with that.
It comes as standard with a full body keep as you can see there, which is all steel. So even if they try to hack through the wood to get at the bolt they are still going to have a problem with that. Also, I don't know if you can zoom in there for us Lee, but you can see there guys it's got roller bolts as well, inside the bolt. Which means if somebody tried to hacksaw this, as soon as they hit those little cams there, then the blade's going to spin on those . . . Well, for a month of Sundays, really, depending on how aggressive they are. But it's going to delay the tactic of somebody trying to hacksaw their way through.
So to give you some sort of more measurements, which you might be interested in knowing, to see if this lock will fit on your door. Is the backset that's from the centre there where you put your key in to the faceplate on the front is 32 millimetres. Okay? The case height, that's the height from there to there. This case height here it's only 65 millimetres. Its quite a [tottie 00:03:10] lock in that respect. The fore-end length, that's the distance from there to there, is 120 millimetres and the fore-end width, that's the width of the actual fore-end plate, is 25 millimetres.
Now they are available keyed alike as standard. We can actually get them off the shelf keyed alike, or we can actually key them alike for you. And they are available in either a satin chrome or this lovely brass chrome here if you want that. It comes as standard with a set of escutcheons that come in a bag and of course it comes with its screw fixings as well.
So it has its usage, it has its abilities, it's got its position in the market, it's made by a good manufacturer in the U.K. and I could be stood corrected, but I think they still manufacture in the U.K., which is a bonus these days. So available from us, LocksOnline.co.uk but if there's something that I haven't mentioned here that you think "Oh I need to know this." or, "I need to know the measurement on that" Listen guys, pop us over an e-mail. I'd love to hear from you.
Use our Live Chat on our website, you can post us here. Yes we still accept post these days or you can e-mail us if you want to. One thing I'd love to do is for you to consider adding to our cart to buy it. That would be really appreciated.
So from me, Darrel and all the LocksOnline team here, I hope this video has given you enough information to make a considered opinion, as to whether or not this lock is suitable for your application. But, like I've said if you need more advice pop a call over, we would love to speak to you.
So from me, Darrel, take care. Bye-bye.
