This particular bathroom door lock comes in form of a deadlock. With a detachable faceplate it can be flipped upside down which allows for different placement of the privacy turn depending on the way you wish to install it. You may want to re-use an existing hole for handles previously on the door rather than re-drilling, in which case using it as shown in the photos may work better for you.
The only difference in this compared to a deadlock is that instead of a keyhole in which you'd need to use a key to operate the lock on a traditional deadlock, we have instead a 5mm square follower like that on a latch for a set of handles, but this one is designed to work with a privacy turn & release set. These are the little thumb-turns you see on toilet doors, that often have either a vacant / occupied indicator on the outside in commercial applications, or in a domestic household setting, normally just a flat-slotted emergency release on the outside which allows you to unlock the door with a coin or screwdriver etc. Please note however, these aren't supplied with the lock as there are lots of various types to suit your decor style.
Looking at the lock itself, you will notice it still uses the same template as a traditional deadlock - with a typical main body height of 76mm and case depths then of 63mm, 76mm and 101mm - the latter being less common these days. The backset measurement on each of those models is 45mm, 57mm and 82mm accordingly - that's the distance from the face of the lock, to the centre of the square follower for the turn & release spindle.
One of the reasons these are favoured over and above other bathroom door locks is the build quality. These are a completely UK manufactured product, from design and development right through to manufacturing, building and packaging. And the British build quality speaks for itself. The mechanical operation is smooth and precise, and you'll notice these also come with a 10 year warranty!
The locks are also fire-tested under BS EN 1634-1:2000 which may be a requirement for some commercial applications.
Please be aware that the Imperial Locks range is manufactured to order for you specially - so please allow additional time for these to be dispatched!
These locks are fire-tested to BS EN 1634-1:2000
