Hi, guys. My name is Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for taking some time to tune in to one of our product review videos.
The product that we have here at this moment in time is the Union Silver Series because the case is silver. It's the 2077 3 lever, horizontal mortise sash lock. Yeah, I know, it's a mouthful. But Silver Series, I mention Silver Series because there is the Union range of Silver Series locks have been around now for a numerous amount of years. They were around back in the '70s and very much hasn't really much changed about them. And they've had this complete range. They used to be classified as an architectural range, but now it's more standard, run of the mill range of locks that are available.
What's then special about these? Of course, it allows you to use or have a horizontal style in the door where the keyhole sits forward and very, very common if you're looking at old doors where the turn or the knob or the handle was sitting further back from the leading edge in the centre rail.
These are available in two different sizes. The one I have here in front of me is the 152mm and that's the distance from there to there, is 152, but they're also available in 127mm versions, well slightly smaller. The measurement, all the measurements are on our website. I'm showing you the differences of the fixing plates and the faceplates and so forth.
So in reality, this particular video is only really to give you a bit more information about the particular product yourself and give you the opportunity to see it in the flesh. And at the same time then, see whether or not this is the particular lock for you.
Some of the unique characteristics with this particular type of lock is that the actual bolt, which is quite uncommon in the UK, so to speak, is actually at the top and the latch is at the bottom. To turn this latch around, you would need to undo the screws, take the case apart, watch out for springs and we always recommend that if something does go loose, if you take a photo, after you've taken the lock case open, take a quick photo.
And then if something does go awry, then you've got the photo there on your mobile device to refer to if a spring goes bing somewhere, all right. So that's one of the advantages of taking a video. And then you can turn this latch around for the different type of handling of the door.
Now, it comes as standard with two keys and these are the keys here, pretty standard these days, to come standard with two keys. And of course, it's 3 lever. So we always recommend you need to have at least a minimum of 5 lever on an external door. So by all means fit one of these, but you should by rights have at least a 5 lever somewhere or even a bridge standard lock on fire and exit doors. But of course, this can be used for internal doors, no problem at all. And of course, it's Union, and Union, they have a reputation for quality. So, you know, you're investing in a good piece of kit here.
Here's the standard faceplate. They're pretty standard now with the whole Silver Series. This particular type of faceplate is pretty standard fob profile of a cut out of the flat case. These locks are available in a satin stainless steel finish or a brass finish, which I have here. There's a protective covering over this brass, so that's why it might look a bit dull to you in the video, but it's a protective covering to stop it from scratching and tarnishing and so forth. So that's the reason for that.
So there you go, guys. There's not really much more that I could say about it. Obviously, this is where the handle will go. Just a quick one as well, is that it's got two slots here. The idea of those slots is that if you've got furniture that is bolt through where they bolt together on either side, then these slots allow that. I don't think that measurement's on our site and I get you that one for the centres there. You're looking at roughly around about 40mm from there to the centre of that hole there.
So, you know, if you're thinking of using some furniture on here that's got bolt through fixings and not screw fixings, wooden screw fixings, then that gives you an idea as to whether or not the furniture would fit on this particular door...on this particular lock, sorry.
So that's it from me and all of us here. But listen, if there's something that you need to know, feel free to pick up the phone, use our live chat that we have on our website or pop us over an email. Either way, we'd love to hear from you and more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer. That would be a really big bonus. So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, take care and we'll catch up with you real soon. Take care now, bye-bye. Bye-bye.
