Hi, guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Many thanks for taking the time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we're talking about Adamsrite. We're talking about the mortise night latches that you can get now for aluminium doors, manufactured by the company Adamsrite. This is the 4751 variant, and what's so different about this one is that it actually takes a Euro profile cylinder, which, of course, is starting to get a lot more common now on aluminium doors and the use of Euro profile cylinders in general when it comes to locking security. So this is the type of lock that you would probably see on a commercially graded front door like to an office block, or to a shop, or maybe to a petrol station. You know every time you go in and out through a door in a petrol station, the chances are they may have this particular type of lock fitted to them.
I'm only mentioning that because it'll give you some sort of idea as to say if you're thinking that this is the lock that you need then that's the type of door that you would expect to be associated with this particular type of lock.
Now the functionality of this is quite straightforward. When the actual door closes into place, that gets pushed in and that gets deadlocked there. It's as simple as that. And of course then to override it, you would use the key. It only has a key operation.
I've got myself a cylinder here. So if I put the cylinder in, I'm lining up into the centre there. Okay? You would have a screw then in there, bear in mind now, guys, that if you're going to put a screw in, to make sure that if it goes in, because the frames on doors are quite narrow, that you may have to cut the screw off so it doesn't go all the way through and end up fracturing the glass. All right? So if you're using a key for that.
Now if I was to operate that now, it's quite simple. You pull it back like that and that allows you then to get in and out. You might have a thumb turn on the inside and a Euro cylinder on the outside, and, of course, the chances are you won't have it this wide neither. It'll be a standard 44mm thick door.
One thing also with using the cylinder as well, it does have the ability to hold back. So if you were to push that in and turn the cylinder in the opposing way, I should be able to then override, there you go I've just done it there now, and that allows you there to hold this back for the days that you want to be able to just have the door free access. Okay?
So again, if you're a petrol station and through the day you want to have free access, but then after 9 at night you want to lock that door, only allow certain people in, then you would obviously override that. And to override it, you simply pull that back there, like that. You should be able to, let me get it back in the centre there, push it back like that, there you go, and then it's back into its original variation.
Now they come in two different sizes. They come in a 24mm backset and a 28mm backset. And one of the important things when you measure these particular types of locks is that you will have a faceplate on here. You do not measure the faceplate. Take the faceplate, put it to one side, and then measure from this plate to the centre. That's what we call the backset. So it's the centre of the key way there, from the centre of the keyhole to the face plate there. This measurement here, if I was to measure that for you there, okay, that one there is 24mm. And, of course, then the bigger one then is 28mm. Okay.
So that's for you to bear that in mind. The reason for that is they do different types of faceplates with different curvatures and so forth to be in tandem with the profiling of the aluminium door. So you take that away and you measure off this only. All right. It does come with two screw fixings, and they come as standard with it so you can use those to screw into there and obviously then they would probably fit into the backing of the actual door itself. Or you may have some sort of different type of fixing arrangement. So you don't necessarily need to use these.
This one also, it should do if it's standard M5 there, and it will fit also the cylinder if you want it if you don't have a key and the screw for the cylinder.
So there you go, guys. I'll give you quickly some other measurements, as well. The fore end width there is 25mm and the fore end height is 170 . . . I was going to go 173mm. The fixing centres there, from centre to centre, if I can get you one of those measurements now, I'll get that for you quickly. It's 160 . . . I'm going to go for 163mm there from centre screw fixing to centre screw fixing.
