Hi, guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. The product that we have here at this moment in time is the Union. It's the mortice night latch, the L2349 mortice night latch. It's available in two different finishes. It's available in a satin chrome finish and also a brass finish.
The one that I have here today is the brass finish. It's got a nice sheen over the brass. Now there's a cover over this particular finish so it doesn't look as shiny as what it would be after you've taken the cover over. The principles of this particular type of lock are quite good in as much as that it works like a typical Yale lock. When you actually close the door, the actual latch there will get pushed in. When it gets pushed back into the frame, then it locks the door automatically. It's as simple as that. All right.
One of the distinct advantages is this little snib at the top also deadlocks that latch. When the actual door gets closed into the frame, that gets kept pushed in and in doing so, keeps that then deadlocked. That's the way it works. When you're using it with a keep, the keep would sit there where you're actually pushing that black knobule at the top there, the deadlocking snib in tight. Therefore then that's what keep that deadlocked. That's one of the distinct advantages with this, working exactly the same as a Yale type lock save and except that it's actually morticed into the door.
Now to undo this particular latch to get in or to get out, etc., you can either use a cylinder where you put the key in and you physically turn it. Again on the outside exactly the same as a Yale traditional night latch. Or you could actually if you wanted to, on the inside just have a thumb turn on the cylinder. Or you could if you wanted to, have a handle. Therefore you could have a handle on the inside to get out so it's easy. Just go up to the door, press the handle down and out you go. On the outside, you'd have a cylinder then in which to get in.
If you're looking at bedrooms, hotel rooms or something similar like that where you only need to have a single operation to get out, you could consider using this particular type of lock. The door will close automatically behind them. It locks into position and then they would use the key then in which to get in. This really works really well.
It's not a downside but because of the mechanism, the only size that they do in regards to case depth here is 3 inches, so you need to make sure that your particular locking style on your door will accept a 3 inches lock face.
Another distinct feature with this particular lock as well is on the front, you've got this little Allen key nodule here and what that does is it allows you to deadlock. By me turning that there like that, I could hold back the latch so you can then have the door in free access. That's what that little device does there. It comes as standard with fixings as you can see. It comes as standard then as well with a fixing plate.
I'll get some quick little measurements on this particular lock now to give you a bit more of an informed decision as to whether or not this is the particular lock that will suit your application. As I've said before, the actual size of the case there is 76-77 mm deep. The case height there is 125 mm. The case width is probably 16 mm. Let me just double check that. Yeah, 15 mm there. The forend length is 180 mm. The forend width is 25 mm. The PZ measurement that's the distance from the centre of where you get the key hole to the centre of the follower there is 45 mm in case you're looking for a set of handles to work in conjunction with this.
There you go, guys. It's the L2349. It's the mortice night latch from Union. Of course anytime you buy Union, you know you're buying a pedigree product. You're buying something that's reliable and going to look after your security for a considerable period of time. It's well worth the investment in my view anyway.
