Hi, guys. My name's Darrel. I'm the head of the Tech Team here at
LocksOnline.co.uk and thanks for tuning in and have a look at some of our
YouTube videos. We're doing some product reviews today, so what I've got
here in front of me is the Era Fortress Lock, one of the stable mortise sash locks that are available from Era. It's a very, very popular
lock. It's used in the country an incredibly large amount.
What we have here is this is the actual lock case. I'm going to get it out
of the bag here. If you can, hop in and have a look at it. So, this is the
sash lock version and to give you guys some sort of idea as to what you're
getting here. I mean, you'll see here on the front, you'll see that there's
a different plate here on the front and that's designed to be an anti drill
plate. Its part of the British Standard 3621 that's required for this
particular lock to get a kite mark.
So, what this effectively does is if somebody wants to try and drill into
this, this is going to make it incredibly difficult to drill into. You'll
notice here as well that there's a silver piece that's around the key hole
there and the idea of that is it's actually a curtain that sits inside.
What that's designed to do is that you can't physically get at the actual
levers inside. So, if you're trying to manipulate one of these or try to
pick them with this gate or this curtain that they call that sits in here
then it makes it again more a requisite of the British Standard.
On the new British Standard that's available on the market, you also need
to project the bolt now 22 millimeters. So, you know, these particular
types of lock will have a projection and there you go. There's how far it
projects, like that. If you actually look, you see some black and some
silver lines and there's anti drilling resistance inside these to stop
anybody trying to drill through here or trying to cut through there. It
makes it incredibly difficult.
Now there's a range of these. This is the sash lock version. The sash means
that you've got a latch as well which allows you to put a handle. This is
what we call a follower here and this allows you then to put a handle in so
you can operate the latch there and then put the key into the bottom to
deadbolt the door which is pretty common in the UK.
You'll notice, as well that this particular type of lock case has got holes
there and there. A nice design to allow for bolt through furniture; some
furniture these days come instead of screwing into the timber, you can
actually bolt through and clamp the two together. So, that's what those
there are for.
So, these particular types of locks, they're available in two different
cases, sizes. This is the two and a half inch size, but they also come as a
three inch as well, a half inch a little bit a half inch a bit further and
of course, everything moves then back by a half inch as well. The face
plates, there's four different designs that are available. There's a brass
version. There's a stainless steel version. There's a bright chrome version
and then there's a standard satin brass version as well that are available.
So, we can as well as locksmiths if you want to, we can actually key these
alike for you. So, you can have some of the deadlock range of Fortress
locks or the sash locks and you can have your back door and your front door
or you could have two locks on the same door and therefore that one key can
fit them. It comes standard with two keys. Comes with some fitting
instructions here as well show you how to fit them and then this is also
then the keep here which you would put into the frame for that which the
lock was in.
These are pretty standard universal finishes here. They're all of this dull
gray finish. So, there you go. So, that's the spec on this particular type
of lock. Comes with fixing screws and obviously this one here is the
stainless steel version and that will sit there. Now, I'll pull this out
because it maybe that you want to know, but on all of the locks that are
British Standard you'll see, if you can zoom in there, you'll see that
there's a British Standard kite mark that's actually embossed onto the face
plate there. So, it's quite important that if your insurance are requiring
you to have a British Standard then there's the British Standard there.
So, this is the Era Fortress range of sash locks. They do a range of
deadlocks as well and we can key alike the deadlocks and the sash locks
together as well should you want to. So, there you go guys. I hope that
this video has been informative to you and help you make your purchase or
consider you to purchase the right lock for your particular type of
application. One of the benefits with the Era Fortress lock is that if
you're restricted on your budget, these are incredibly friendly to your
budget should you need to buy a few. So, there you go. I appreciate your
time and come back and visit us real soon. Take care now. Bye, bye.
