Hi guys, my name's Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at Many thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.

Today we're talking about Legge locks. Legge is a company. They've been around since 1851 manufacturing locks in the UK. They're a bit of an old guy on the block but their locks and security are probably just as good as the day they were building it all those years ago.

This is the P1645. It's a 5 lever mortice sash lock. It's probably the basic security now that one would expect to see on a final exit door in your home. You can get British standard versions. This one is not British standard so it's a basic 5 lever lock. Some of the unique markers on this particular lock for starters is the finish. You don't often get a bright yellow lock like this.

Therefore, if you're thinking that you need to change it and its yellow, chances are that it's going to be this one. If your lock is starting to break down, probably it wouldn't have been in since 1851 but if it's going back a good few years and starting to wear away and you're looking at wanting to replace it like for like, chances are if it's yellow it's a good chance that this might be your lock that you're looking for.

It's available in two different finishes. It's available in satin chrome or it's available in a brass finish. We have the brass finish here. It's got a covering over it; therefore, it stops anybody or anything scratching it etc. but of course it's incredibly shiny and so forth sitting under there for when you actually install it for the first time.

One of the other markers that you may find as well is that it's got the IR. Now Legge being a part of the Ingersoll Rand Group, which is a big conglomerate in the UK and into Europe. Of course you'll see then the words Legge and of course 5 lever there sitting underneath. This particular lock comes as standard with two keys. It comes with a full keep, a full locking keep as you can see there, full striking box whatever terminology you want to use. Of course then it gives you additional security.

One of the other distinct advantages of this particular type of lock as well is if I was to actually operate, I don't know if you can zoom in there but it's got actual little roller bolts in there. The idea of those is to stop anybody from trying to hacksaw through. As they hit one of those bolts, the bolt is going to roll within the side of the bolt itself. The barrel too will roll.

The idea is then that if you're trying to hacksaw, it's going to be sitting there and you're going to be there for a month of Sundays trying to chop through it. That's one of the distinct advantages of that particular type. This particular lock case would require that if you wanted to change the handing of this, obviously it depending on which way the door opens or closes, you would need to take the three screws out. Inside then you would be able to flip the latch around and allow you to change the handing no problem at all.

Now this particular one is only a 2.5 lock from there to there so let's get some measurements on this. I'll give you a little more information that if you are thinking of changing it, we'll get those precise measurements for you.

The forend length, that's from the very top to the very bottom there, if I measure that up as best as I can because it's slightly oval there. I'm going to go for 166 millimetres, maybe 165 to 166 millimetres there. The forend width there is 25 millimetres, which is a pretty industry standard. The lock case depth there is about 62 millimetres, 64 perhaps depending if you put the faceplate on as well.

The back set, that's the measurement from the leading edge to the centre there of the follower is 45 millimetres, say 44 to 45 millimetres back set there. The PZ end measurement which is the measurement from the centre of the key hole there to the centre of the follower, that measurement there is 55, 56, 57 millimetres, which again is pretty industry standard. The case width there is 16 millimetres.

I'll get some measurements on the bolt as well. The bolt projection on this guy here is 18 millimetres and the bolt width is 10 millimetres. The bolt height is 32 millimetres.

There you go guys. Like I say, it's just a standard 5-lever lock not that that's a problem. It's just that it's what's you'd probably be looking at now is an insurance minimum in the UK for any wooden final exit door.

If this is the type of lock that you're particularly looking for, then maybe this is the ideal opportunity of putting this video together to at least give you some additional information that probably you may not get from a picture or a little bit of information in regards to a bit of text on the side. The idea of doing this video is to let you know a bit more and see the lock in the flesh and what exactly do you get in the box.
