Hi, guys. Thanks for tuning in. My name is Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at and today we're looking at the Cisa 45010 Hookbolt Dead Lock.

This particular type of lock is just a little dainty lock, it's so petite and small looking, it's taunting in respect, and therefore it has a lot of option and choices when it comes to wanting to lock something that's small. It's not the sort of lock that you necessarily put on a full blown front door but there are certain types of applications like sliding doors, this would work on a sliding door. I'm kind of thinking like boats or yachts or small little doors that, you know, wouldn't necessarily . . . where a big, ordinary household lock may be quite restrictive because of its size.

This would also work on fashion type aluminium sliding doors as well for additional security should you so need some, and yet aluminium doors are mostly used in European countries. Cisa as a manufacturer, they are an Italian company and therefore you probably find that this is more popular in Italy and European countries than you would in the UK. But I think in the UK it does have its advantages and there's a lot of benefits when you consider having this type of lock.

So let's have a look what you get. That's the actual lock itself and I'll go through some of its key measurements a little bit later. You also get, as well, this what you call in the industry a miniature oval. It's a slightly small oval than what you would expect to see in a wooden door, in a conventional wooden door. It's a miniature oval.

Again, you may find these in sliding doors from the ‘80s and early ‘90s and possibly the late ‘70s. Not so much popular these days but were then. I'll get some measurements on that as well for you. It also comes with its keep. This has got a substantial strong keep, which it needs to be if its going to be used as sliding door lock. And of course there is the fixing screw to hold the cylinder into place.

So let's get the cylinder actually in the lock and let's have a look at the way that the lock actually works. So if I point that towards you, I'll just fiddle here a little bit just to get that into place there. And then that screw there will then sit in there and hold that cylinder into place like that. And then if you actually turn the lock there, there's the bolt that comes out there. So when you think about it that the case depth is only 30 millimetres, you know, that is a fair amount of bolt that is coming out there.

Let me get some measurements on that actual bolt for you, guys, because it might be important if you are thinking of fitting this. So if I just measure that there like that, right to the very end there you've got 20 millimetres and that space that you see in between the two there as well is 6 millimetres. You've got a gap there of 6 millimetres.

Now, if you are planning on using it in a sliding door application, Cisa have decided not to supply fixings with this lock. You would need to provide your own fixings, and depending on the sub straight whether its an aluminium door, whether its a steel door, wooden door, composite door or whatever or plastic door even, then you would choose the fixings that is applicable to what you are trying to fit it to. But what I will say as a locksmith, you need to consider whatever type of fixings here, because if you're using it in the sliding application, then its these screws here that will hold on the door closed. So really go for a strong and don't compromise the fixings for the actual keep itself it's quite important, and of course, simultaneously these, because you have this cylinder sticking through, then this does give a little bit more support to the lock in the door. And the idea that this would then sit in there like that and of course then that would stop the door from opening.

Let's get some measurements of the actual lock itself. The case depth there, as I've mentioned before, is 30 millimetres. So the back set distance from there to there, if I can just get that for you, I think it's about 16 millimetres. Yeah, bang on. That there, from there to there to the centre there is only 16 millimetres. That's how small this particular type of lock is. The case height, from there to there, is 100 millimetres, and the fore-end height from there to there is 158 millimetres and the fore-end width is 20 millimetres.

What I will also do as well is give you the fixings centres because that might be quite important as well and those fixing centres there, again, is about 138 millimetres. Okay, so if you are thinking of actually getting some screw fixings, that's 138 millimetres.

Now, depending on how thick your door is, the cylinder that comes with it is standard, as you can see there. If I was to get a measurement of that cylinder overall, that would give you an idea, and that overall cylinder width there is 60 millimetres. So if you were to have a 44 millimetre door, that would actually sit in there fine with a little bit sticking out either side and you'd get an escutcheon to cover that. Now, this doesn't come with escutcheons so you'd need to machine yourself something tidy because these are miniature ovals and are not that popular in the UK.

So there you go, guys. This is the 45010. It comes standard with three keys as standard, multiple applications. It's more of a lock that you think, "I need to lock something and it's small and I need something that is strong and sturdy," and this might actually be the job for you. So it's more of an application-based sort of lock. It has its specific applications in that aspect.

So I'm hoping very much that I have managed to mention all that I think that you may need to install this particular product but, listen, I may have forgotten something that you may need to know about. So why don't you just pop us or over an email or pick up the phone or use the live chat on our website. We'd love to hear from you. We'd love it even more if you would think of buying this lock from us, really appreciate that, thank you.
