Hi, guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Many thanks for taking the time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we're going to be talking about the Gibbons Rim Sash Lock that's available on our website. It's also branded under the name Basta as well, so if you're searching for Gibbons or Basta it may actually be that this is the product that you're looking for.
Now the type of rim, the traditional type of rim latch lock that you may find that this particular style is, you may find on old-fashioned back doors, old wooden doors, etc. off the back of houses. This is actually what it actually looks like. Okay. So you probably are very familiar with it. If you're in the UK then you're going to be familiar with this style of lock that you'll find. Now, it comes as standard with two keys, and of course, because this is a rim application lock, of course it's going to sit on the door. The keys are much longer because they need to go through the door, okay, so that's the whole reason why the keys are much longer.
Now, the beauty with this particular type of lock is that you can operate the bolt with a key from either doing it from that position there, but if the handle was the opposite, if I was to turn it like that, again, you've got the ability to do it again, on the opposing side like that. Okay. So it doesn't matter what hand that the door is on, and of course, if the door is inward or outward opening on the back there, you can see if you can zoom in on there for us, Lee, you can see you can undo the screw there. And that will allow you to turn the latch round depending on the application, on whether or not the door's opening inwards or outwards. So that's what it comes as standard with.
Now it comes with a keep, as you can see there, and it comes with some fixing screws. Now it's important to mention that this particular type of lock isn't as secure as what is normally required these days on final exit doors, so by all means fit one of these for styling and aesthetics etc., use it on an internal door no problem at all. But if you're looking at your final exit door, you need to be looking. I'd get a British standard lock or at least a five lever lock on your door as well, to deadlock that door. So there you go, guys, can be used standard or traditional type knob furniture, no problem at all.
While I'm here, I'll get some measurements for you. If you're thinking that this is the lock that you need or you're swapping it because the holes are in a certain place, let's get some measurements to see exactly what the size of this particular lock is. The case depth overall there is 140mm. The case height there is 76mm. The backset to the key way is 44mm, and the back set to the follower is 109mm. So that's the backset to the follower there. There's a little bit of a lip there as well, so I'll just get the size of the depth of the lip there, and that's 10mm there.
So there you go. Available, like I said, on our website, LocksOnline.co.uk. But listen, if you need a bit more information or you want a bit more advice, by all means pop online, use the live chat that we have on our website. It's totally free. You can talk to me or any of the guys on the sales or tech team, more than willing to help you. More importantly we'd love to see you as a customer. So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, thanks for taking the time to tune in. We'll catch up with you real soon. Take care, Bye-bye now.
