Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Today we're looking at multipoint lock gear boxes, for multipoint locks for UPVC doors, and composite doors.
One that we have here in front of us is a little bit of an oddball, so it's thought that we do a little video for you, to give you a little bit more information. This particular gear box is made by a company called Era, and what you will find on the faceplate of the actual lock is you may see a little black piece of plastic, and written on it would be the words, "Surelock." Now, if that is the case, this may be the actual lock for you.
Now, one of the distinct advantages, or distinct IDs of this particular lock is the thickness of the bolt here. It's very, very unique with this particular range, right? It's a lot thinner than what all of the traditional sort of multipoint locks are. So let me get a measurement for you, because that's quite important. The actual thickness of that particular bolt, it's only 5.5mm, give or take, all right? So it's only 5.5 millimetres thick, and most of the other ones are a little bit thicker.
So, here's the idents; If you're thinking it's got "Era" stamped on it, got "Surelock" stamped on it, either or, and this particular bolt is a lot thinner than normal, get a measurement on it if it's around the 5mm, chances are this may be the gear box for you. Some other identifiers as well is that you got the two screw holes here that you can undo and take this off to change your tandem. That's quite unique as well.
Now, they only come in a 35-mm backset. That's the distance from the leading edge there to the centre of the keyhole. And the PZ measurement, that's the centre of the keyhole to the centre of the spindle, is 92mm.
All right. So this particular type of gear box, so just to recap on that for you, if you got a little black marker that holds this latch back when you'll push this in, and this little marker's got "Surelock" written on it, or it's got "Era" then double check to see whether or not this is thin. If it's thin, this is the gear box for you.
Ninety per cent of UPVC lock failures these days are not necessarily the failure of the complete mechanism; it's the failure of the actual gear box itself. So, by able to just sell the gear boxes, it saves you a lot of money, because you don't have to buy the complete thing. And, of course, it's cheaper to actually ship to you as well, as opposed to sending you a tube in the post.
So, listen guys, just double check. This is a little bit of an oddball. But they are out there. You know, you need to check to see whether or not this is the one for you. But listen, if there's something that I haven't mentioned, if there's something that you're scratching your head over, etc., well perhaps, you know, pop over an email. Use the live chat on our website. That's totally free, no problem at all. Or, pop us over a call, or use email.
But, more importantly, what we'd love to do is to see you as a customer. That'd be really good for us. From me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, take care, and we'll catch up with you real soon. Take care, now. Bye-bye.
