Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. The product we have here today is a Safeware, it's the gear box for a Safeware Multipoint lock. Now over the years multipoint locks have changed and so forth and what we're finding in the industry is that 80-90% of the failures of multipoint locks is the actual gear box that sits in the centre.

So its now becoming more popular to stop the actually gear boxes that sit centre as opposed to the complete strip. That doesn't mean to say we can't get the complete strip, it just means that 90% of the cases are it's the gear box that fails. So you only now need to be looking at changing the actual gear box in the centre. Now Safeware is a manufacturer. If you're 100% sure, have a look on the actual strip and if it says Safeware on the strip then you know that this is the gear box that's fitted for these. One of the other distinctive identifiers as well on this particular type of lock is its length of the actual gear box.

Its really, really long and its probably one of the longest in the range. Just to give you some sort of idea on a measurement on that, I'll get you a measurement. We're talking nearly 255mm long. So it's a significant length in regards to the actual gear box itself. Some of the features of this particular gear box, I've gone through them, is that it comes with either a standard 92mm PZ, which is there. But it also has this second follower here, and this follower here from there to there is also 62mm.

What that allows you to do is that from the outside you can use the latching function where you use a key to get in. The handle wouldn't necessarily work. To actually open the door you'd use a key, like a traditional Yale sort of lock on a wooden door. But from the inside you would use this particular follower at the top and then that would allow you to get out by just pressing the handle down or lifting the handle up to lock the actual door. There's a standard with an up bolt as you can see there and obviously the latch as well. It's only one certain size of backset on these, and that's 35mm backset. That's the distance from the plate to the centre of the keyhole. If you want to measure that, then you want to make sure that is also 35mm. Okay.

One of the other distinctive advantages with this particular type of lock is a hold back facility. You can have a set of handles for these that has a hold back, a little snip at the top, that holds the latch back so therefore then if you're going out and so forth and the door closes behind you, you know you're not going to get locked out if you haven't got the key, of course, if you're using the split spindle or the separate follower option.

So there you go, guys, there's not really much that I can say about these other than what we've already said. But if there's something that you think, "Oh, I need to know that" or, "I want to get some more information on this" look, pop us over an email, use our live chat or you can actually just pick up the phone and give us a call. Either way, we'd love to hear from you and, more importantly, we'd love to see you as a customer; that would be really good for us. So from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, thanks for tuning in and we will catch up with you real soon. Take care now, bye-bye.
