Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. Today we're talking padlocks, today we're talking Abus, and today we're talking 70AL, the open shackle padlock. Quite funky padlock, if I have to be honest with you. And this is the guy here, all in this orange. Now, these are available in different finishes. They're available in yellow, bright yellow, bright green. This is the orange one, as you can see it's very bright, and there is the silver finish as well.
And what's distinctive about these particular type of padlocks along, with some others perhaps, is that it has this cap over here that helps stop weather getting into the actual bottom here were all the pins and so forth are, that could in effect cause damage or cause the lock to malfunction, or to get a bit more corrosion so forth, so that protects that there, like that.
You will also see as well over the actual shackle itself that there's rubber protection as well over that shackle, so it's all geared around and designed around being as weather resistant as possible. And to assist in that weather resistivity, it also has this nano protection that's built into it, that has this property built into it to resist corrosion as well. So if you're thinking that you're wanting a padlock, a small basic padlock in harsh environments like a boat or a trailer, or anywhere where you think you know there's a chance of having a lot of corrosion maybe these are the guys that you need to be looking for.
Now we can get these all keyed alike if you want, so you can have one key that can fit a group of them, and I'm almost sure as well we can get them master keyed as well if you want to be a little bit more funky, a little bit more comprehensive in regards to its looking solution. But much of a muchness, if you're thinking that you need something for a hostile weather environment, then you might be wanting to consider these particular type.
Now they come standard with two keys, as you can see here, there's also a key number that's actually stamped on the keys, so well worth you remembering that key number because that will allow us to cut additional keys should you so wish, or if you were to lose the keys, then you should be able to get an extra key cut by that number, so it doesn't mean that you end up having to destroy the padlock.
So what I'm going to do now is I'm going to get some basic measurements for you, and to give you some sort of idea so that if you're thinking, "Oh, yeah, I like it, it's really funky, it's really trendy and it's going to be suiting what I'm needing for it" let's get some measurements to see if it will go through your shackle and so forth on, on whatever you're going to use it on. The actual overall case width there is 45mm, as you can see there.
The actual shackle diameter, I'll get you that shackle diameter standard, which is the steel part there, and the steel part is 6mm. But because it has this rubber sleeve over it, that makes it a little bit bigger, and we're talking there just over 8mm. So you need to make sure that your hasp, the hole in your hasp is bigger than 8mm to accept this particular padlock.
Its width, its clearance width in the centre there, that's quite an important measurement, we're talking there is 20mm, okay, so you've got enough clearance there. If I was to lock that into the lock position there, the vertical clearance there, you're talking a good 24mm there. The overall length or the height of the actual padlock itself is 70mm overall.
So there you go, guys. It's a five-pin configuration, best when you're looking at maintaining padlocks and so forth, just a little bit of few top tips here for you, by all means put a little bit of grease in this particular part of the mechanism, actually in the part here that operates the actual protection of the actual shackle itself. By all means stick a little blob of grease in there every so often, and that doesn't mind having grease.
But don't go putting grease in this particular part down here. And if you can, either try to use a silicon based lubricant, a dry lubricant or a bit of graphite dust, that's in reality all that's needed to make sure that this particular type of padlock is going to look after you and service you well. So there you go guys, it's the Abus, it's the 70AL, it's the open shackle version available on LocksOnline.co.uk.
