Hi, guys. My name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos. Today we're talking about Abus padlocks, the extreme range that they have that's designed for harsh environments and areas which are pretty harsh in regards to snow and rain and all that you may get. They've really put a lot of effort and a lot of time into getting themselves a really good quality product here that can be used for these harsh environments.
If I take this particular one here which is that largest, it's a 63 mm version, we measure padlocks from their width across here, and you can see here that they've gone and put a cover here over the bottom to help protect the cylinder inside to stop all the dirt and debris and so forth and dust getting into the cylinder. They've even gone and put some little sleeves around here, some rubber sleeves as well to stop all the moisture and the corrosion from getting down inside there.
They also have this Nano protective technology on the shackles as well. The idea of that is that they chrome the shackles as you can see but then there's another extra coating that fills all the holes microscopically on the actual chrome as well, which therefore then increases its corrosion resistance. They've really thought about the product in that respect.
All of the range here of the extremes is sold secure abroad so you know that there's an outside testing house that has tested these padlocks and certified them as sold secure. They also come in two different versions. They come in key retaining and they also come in key non-retaining so it's entirely up to you. We always suggest that you look at always having the key retaining because that means you've got to lock the padlock before you can take the key out. That's quite important in respect to that.
You can also have the whole range. This is the closed shackle version and I've got the actual shackle out there. You can have all of this range here keyed alike. Part of the 83 which these are, you can have them all keyed alike, etc., or you can have a master key or do anything you want because they have interchangeable cores. It's really beneficial in that respect if you're looking for padlocks over a whole site or a big environment, etc., where you need some higher security ones and maybe some that are not necessarily that secure and at least you know that you can have the same key or same master key system which is really, really important.
One thing as well, what I'm going to do is quickly get some measurements for this particular larger one. You can see all the measurements off the other sizes on our website but just to give you an idea how we measure them so therefore you will know if you're thinking, "will this fit your application?" you've got a better understanding of that. The shackle thickness on these is just over the 11 mm. We would call that 11 mil so that's quite a thick and substantial shackle. The actual vertical clearance, this is what we call the vertical clearance there, is 35 mm and the horizontal clearance there is 25 mm. That can work on a multitude of different types of houses and stables and so forth or locking bars or whatever you decide you want to use it on.
The extra closed shackle version doesn't have the protective sleeves but because it's got the cover over the top, it can be more secure because it resists the ability to be able to attack that shackle. On the smaller ones, the 53 mm that shackle there is just over 7.5 mm. There you go, guys. Available now on our website LocksOnline.co.uk.
