These models are lockable using the keys provided. There are three sizes of handles available with these models, separated by stacking height, 9mm (available in white/silver), 17mm and 22mm (only available in white). The fixing centres of this cockspur handle is 37mm and 59mm (Inside and outside fixing centres)
These models of wood/metal UPVC window handles have been designed by Avocet. These models are handed, to indentify your model simply when where the handle is aligned, if it is to the left of the cockspur then it is left, if it is to the right of the cockspur then it is right handed.
You can also use packers that allow it to be able to close flush, these fittings are found in 3 different sizes, 8mm, 5mm and 3mm, and they come in brown or white finishes.
Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for tuning in and watching one of our product review videos.
Today we are talking about cockspur handles. They are handles that are normally used on windows, on outward opening windows. They can be used actually on metal windows of the old types from the ‘70s and the ‘80s, except the aluminium type of windows that you may still see around. But they can also be used on UPVC in so many occasions. They can also be used on wood as well. So they are quite diverse in regards to the way and what they can be used for. This particular range that we have here in front of us is the range from Avocet. It's a complete range and they are available in two different finishes. They are available in silver and white.
But what we're going to do is we are going to have a chat with you and take you through all the different options that you need to do. The first thing you need to be aware of is that these handles are handed. Which means that you have a left and a right-handed version. So what you need to do is how do you actually know whether or not you need a left or a right-handed. It's quite simple really. If you were to actually look at the handle there, like I'm looking at that handle there now, the handle is actually situated on my left. The cockspur is situated on my right. I look at the handle; the handle is on the left, left-handed. It's as simple as that.
If it was right-handed, it will be the opposite way around and I will be looking at that there now and I'm saying the handle is on my right, in which case that's now right-handed. So that's how you would have this, that's very, very simple. No problem at all. This particular range all utilises the same type of key. So even if you have to have different types of cockspur handles in this particular range, you can be safe and sure that you're going to have just one key to fit them all which is really, really great and is convenient.
Now another thing that you need to be aware of as well is what we call in the industry the stacking height, is how far does the cockspur part, the lever part, actually sit away from the window. This particular range, they're available in three different sizes. There's 9mm, and the 9mm is available in silver as well as white. And then the 17mm, and then there's 22mm. Now, the 17 and 22mm versions are only available in white. So that's important for you to know. You can't get them in silver.
How do you measure the stacking height? Easy. If you got the actual handle like that, you sit it down on a flat surface like that and if you can zoom in there for us, just move those to one side there a little bit and you get the measure there. And you measure from the actual bottom base to the underneath of the actual cockspur and whatever that measurement is, it's either 9, 17 or 22 and that's how you would then measure those. So really easy and straightforward enough.
What I'm going to do whilst I'm here is give you some sort of fixing centre measurements as well. Because if you think you're retrofitting these, if you're replacing them, great. But if you're thinking that I'm going to swap them over with a different type or style of handle, let's get some fixing centres for you. Those inner screw centres are . . . I'm going to say that those are around about 37mm. Okay. And the outside set of holes there is going to be far off, somewhere like about 59mm there about. Okay. So that's those there. Now 99.9% of the time if you're replacing these on a set of UPVC windows, you may find that you've already got the actual mounts that actually sits on the frames. But if you haven't, or they're damaged, or they're dirty or you want to change them at the same time, we do a range of mounts in either brown, as you can see there, or actually in a nice white finish as well. These are extras. They don't come with the handles. You would need to order these as a separate entity should you want to actually get some of these.
Now, these are also available in different sizes, and I'll get the measurements on this for you. The thickest one there is 8mm, and then the next one down, if my memory serves me right, is 5mm. And the thinnest one of all is 3mm. Now these are quite easy to fit. You would normally drill two little pilot holes, push that in there like that and use a bit of glue on here to fix them into position. These little pilot nodules here will allow you then to be able to make sure it doesn't move once it's actually fitted to the window.
