Hi guys, my name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for tuning in and having a look at one of our product review videos.


Today we have the Chasmood Dictator. It's a device that's designed to sit on a door to stop the door from slamming that final little bit. Now, how can I put this into words and explain to you its application? If you could imagine, if you've got a door that's got a door closer on it, in a commercial building, let's say, for example, a nursing home or a hospital, or something like that. What you'll find is that you open the door, no problem at all, it starts to close behind you and right at that last three or four, maybe five or six inches, all of a sudden, it picks up speed and slams into position. Of course, sometimes it can slam to such an extent that the whole building vibrates. So what you do is, you go up there, you adjust it to make it slower, and then you'll find, then, that it's too slow if the windows are closed or if there's a back pressure.


It's always difficult trying to measure up the differences between winter and summer. For example, in the summer the oil in the closer will be slightly more liquid, so therefore, then, it will close a lot quicker. In the winter it's a little bit colder, and therefore then, it will slow down. So the idea of this particular device is to take control of that door that last final couple of inches, to bring the door in to its latched closed position nice and uniformity.


Now, we have actually installed these, as a local company, up in our local school to the main doors. Again, that was the problem, the wind would come in and in the winter etc., the children would open the door and when the door, then, started closing behind them, the wind would take the door. Even though there was a door closer on there, they would slam all the time. The Chasmood Dictator takes that slamming out and controls the door those last couple of inches. So that's the idea, that's the principle behind this particular product.


Let's look at the product in a bit more detail. One of, probably, the best ways of looking at it, is actually on the box itself. As you can see there, you've got the door down at the bottom there and then you've got the frame that sits at the top there, as you can see. What you have is this device and it's got a very, very powerful piston inside there. The idea is, is that when this ball takes control, it will actually use the piston that's there to control the closing speed.


If I actually have this now here, in front of us, this is the way it would be fitted to the door when the door has now been opened. So the ball would sit there, at the top of the door like that. This is the keep that would sit on the frame, like that. The idea is just that when the door starts to close, it picks up into the keep there, and I have to give it a little bit of a push now to get it over its fulcrum. I might not be able to . . . there you go. Now it's pulling in the door slowly into the actual frame itself, until it's fully closed. Of course, it's hard for me to try and show that.


If it was fitted on a door, it would be a lot better than what I'm trying to show you there. That's the general principle of it. So when you open the door again, that there, the keep device, will pull this back, I'll have to get a lot of strength behind it, and pull it back into that position there, ready for it to come again. When it comes back into its keep, it basically pulls the door in that final little bit.


Now, all of this is totally adjustable here, so it depends on where your position's sit. You might find your frame is slightly out, or the door is slightly in, and you may have to adjust this tube. That's the basic principle of this particular design in application.


This is the basic, standard version. There are different versions, as well, available. I'm almost sure, as well, they do externally-graded versions, as well, made out of stainless and so forth. They do different types of keeps, as well, depending on the application.


Now, one of the things that you'll need to be aware of, is on this keep, is that you need to be aware, if this is going to be screwed to the frame, this is going to sit higher. You need to make sure you've got a bit of clearance at the top of the door. If I was to say from that point there to that height there, if I was to get ourselves the ruler, you'll need to have a height clearance of at least about 75 mm. So from the bottom there to the top there, you'll need to have at least 75 mm there above the door. Now, if you don't, there's absolutely no reason why you can't pop this on the side of the door, at the top or at the bottom. It's entirely up to you, preferably at the top, purely and simply is that it doesn't get damaged or it doesn't get hit in any way. So you can actually have them in a side application, if you want.


It's an incredibly popular product. The instructions are here. If I was to actually look in here, there are different versions, as you can see here. There's the 1011, which has a flat keep, as you can see there. Then you've got the 1009, which is probably the most popular one. That's the one that we're showing here, where the actual keep is slightly raised, as you can see there. And then they've got one then, as well, with an extended version, as well, depending on how the door is applied. Those are the different types of versions.


On the back of the package, as well, it actually shows, as well, if you can imagine there, that gives you an example. There's the door closing towards the actual keep there, and as that roller picks up inside there, the hydraulic ram takes in control, as you can see there, and it pulls the door in that last little bit.


There you go, guys. It's the Dictator, manufactured by a company called Chasmood.


Listen, if you need a bit more information, or you're not 100% sure, and you think to yourself, 'You know what? That's a really, really innovative product. I think it will solve my problem.' You can imagine a block of flats and you live in, say, the front flat, by the front door, and every time you're going out, somebody slams the door and it wakes you up at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning.
