Hi, guys. My name is Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a look at one of our product review videos.
Today we are talking about cockspur handles. We're talking about the Cottswold range of cockspur handles that can be used on either aluminium type windows, UPVC windows, and obviously a certain range of wooden windows as well, if you wanted to do so. The styling on the Cottswold is quite old in regards to the styling now, so they're probably more to do with a replacement range as opposed to one wanting to fit this particular styling.
It's quite square and retro in regards to its styling. Probably, as with all styles and fashion, it'll probably come around in a big circle, this might be all in in 20 years time, you never know. But at this moment in time, it's more designed around the styling and if you've already got this particular type of window fitted, do you need to replace them? Are they wearing out? Well, this might be the one that you're looking for.
Now cockspur handles, they come handed. They come in either a left hand or a right hand, and the easiest way to work out what handing that you need, is when you're actually looking at the actual handle like I am, looking at it, the handle there is on the left of the cockspur, and that means that this one here is a left-handed. Now, if it was on the right of the cockspur, as you can see here, I'm looking at it, the handle's on the right. That's right-handed. So that's how you would check out the handing on them.
Now the key on this is very, very simple. It's a universal key. It'll work all of this particular type of range, so there's no problem at all. When you get these handles also, there's covers that cover the fixing holes on the bottom and the top, etc. You get those cover caps to go over these. There's also this cap as well that you can pop on over this as well, depending on the finish. While I've got this in my hand as well, what I'll do is I'll get you some of these centre measurements, so if you're thinking of fitting this onto a window, then let's have a look at these hole centres to see whether or not it's going to actually fit your window.
So the first set of centres I've got there is, I'm going to say, guys, that's about 48mm, and then to the second hole here, I'm going to be saying that's more like about 57, maybe 58mm. The overall left across there is about 73mm, and its width there is 15mm. The projection of the actual cockspur itself is about 20mm there.
Now, the other thing that you need to be aware of is what we call in the industry the stacking height. How far does this cockspur sit away from the window? And this particular range, they're available in either 13 or 21mm. The easiest way to measure that is with your ruler. You actually sit this on whatever substrate or it's on the window, take your measurement like that, and from the actual substrate to the underneath of the cockspur is your measurement that you're looking for. That would be, in this particular range, 13 or 21mm.
Now while you're thinking about changing your handles, or you're changing them out of necessity, we also do a range of the actual keeps that these would be sitting onto. They're sold as option extras. They don't come actually with the handles, so you would need to see whether or not you want these. They sit basically like that against the actual window on the frame. They come in three different thicknesses: 3mm, 5mm, and 8mm thicknesses. What you see on the inside is you're seeing two little projection nodules, as you can see there. And those would actually, you would drill the holes into the frame, and you'd sit that in and the rest of it you'd just glue into place, it's as simple as that.
So there you go, guys. I think I've covered all my bases there to give you a little bit more information and for you to be able to make an informed decision as to whether or not this is the particular range of handles that you're wanting to replace or you're wanting to fit on your windows. But if there's something that you need to know or you need to know a little bit more information, by all means give us a shout. Use email, pick up the phone, give us a call, or by all means use the live chat that we have on our website.
