Hi, guys. My name's Darrell. I'm head of the tech team here at
Locksonline.co.uk. And today, we're doing product reviews, and more
importantly, we're doing the product review of the sash window lock that's
designed by Era, it's the 822.
I have it here in front of me, and to my left as well, I have a sash window
that a local joiner has loaned us, so we can try and explain how these
particular types of locks fit on your sash window. So, what have we got,
and what comes in the kit? It comes as standard with these two screw
fixings like this. It's very hard to explain what they are. And then,
you've also got this little keep here, that you will have as well.
So, it's easy for me to try and explain on the window how these work, so
you can see whether or not they would be suitable for your application. So,
what you've got first of all is this keep, here. The idea is that you would
sit this keep somewhere like there. I don't know if you can zoom in on
that. I'm holding it there. But that's the idea, is it would be fitted in
there. And you recess it in, so it sits nice and flush. And you can put one
on both sides. You can put the other one on this side, as well. But that's
the idea, is that you put one on either side.
Once you've actually had these then sitting in there, this particular bolt,
I don't know if you can see that then, would then be screwed into that. You
need to use the key, so, if I put the key in there. And the idea is then,
once that is all situated inside there like that, and that's sitting in
there like that, then you can't open the window or drop the window any
further than the distance that you've put this up on this outer sash, here.
So, if you've put it just roughly about there, for an example, I don't know
if you can zoom in on that, then you're only going to open it by an inch or
two. If you put it up a little bit further then you can open it up a bit
more. So, the idea is that you can actually open your window up, get a bit
of ventilation whilst this particular window lock is in operation. So, you
don't want to be silly and put it all the way up here, because then
somebody can climb in. You want to put it as close, maybe a couple of
inches is about as much as you need to go.
So, that's the idea of these particular sets, and they come in pairs. And
you need to put one on that side and one on that side. So, if we get some
measurements of this now, this particular plate now, if I get my vernier
gauge, I'll tell you then how thick the plate is. The plate is two
millimeters, give or take. The width there is 16.7 millimeters, 16.7ml, so
you can check to make sure you've got enough sash to fit that on. And the
height there as well, also is 50.9, it's 51 millimeters. Now, as you
noticed, the thread projects all the way through, so you're going to have
to drill yourself a hole in the centre, there. And if I give yourself some
sort of idea as to what size hole you need to drill, you need to be going
in round about say 30 millimeters there, so, by the time you screw that all
in. Now, once the screw is [put in] tight, this outer piece here swivels.
So, if you try to undo this without the key, it just swivels round and
round like that, so you can't actually get at it. So, you need to have key,
in which you can put that in there like that. And then that undoes the nut
and pulls it all out. So, the actual key fixing, I don't know if you can
zoom in there, Lee? The actual key fixing is actually inside there.
Okay, so this is the Era sash window lock. It allows you to have a bit of
ventilation if you want; available now on Locksonline.co.uk. So, if you're
looking for a solution to secure your windows, you need a little bit of
fussing and having all these all fitted in nicely and tidily, but they are
actually a nice quality, genuine product. So, I'd say I'd recommend these
as being as being a suitable application. There you go. What can I say?
