Hi, guys. My name's Darrel. I'm head of the tech team here at
locksonline.co.uk. Today, we're going to do some product reviews. There's a
range of windows that are still out in the UK, metal windows, I mean.
They're normally known as crittall windows, but metal windows from the '60s
and the '70s and so forth, which were all the buzz and all the rage there
and then. And of course, there's a requirement now under the new insurance
requirements and so forth, to get all your windows secured, at least
accessible windows.

Of course, with these particular type of setups of these metal windows,
etc., it does make it hard to try and see what type of lock can actually
get secured. And we had mentioned in one of our videos before, about a lock
that works on the actual cockspur handle of these crittall, metal type
windows. There is also another one that Era do, which again doesn't require
any bolts; it doesn't require any drilling; it doesn't require any fixing
to it. But it actually is quite good on how it works, and it's working on
the actual transom part, what we call the transom holder at the bottom of a
casement window. So, if you can zoom in over here, Lee, and see if we can
actually zoom into this image here.

Unfortunately, I don't have a crittall window here to hand, so I'm going to
have to see if can amplify this here. If you noticed here, this is called a
transom swinging arm, basically. And the idea is that you would open your
window, and then you'd clamp this, or you'd position this so the window
doesn't swing all the way back. I think anybody would be familiar with
these. But right here, there is a space that allows you to actually put a
little lock there. And what effectively you're doing is, you're clamping
the transom bar against the actual lock, against the window itself. So
therefore, you can't lift the transom bar out, in which to open the window.

So, the idea is so simple but it's definitely well worth considering if you
need to secure a metal window. So, if we actually zoom down, we've got the
product here. This is the actual product here, and it's so simple.
Effectively, it comes with a key as standard. So, the idea is that the
transom - I tell you, I use this rule just to give you some sort of idea -
is, the transom would actually sit in there. Once that's all clamped in,
you would just then physically screw this down like that. And that would
compress the two together.

So, the transom would sit against these bars here, and then you'd push this
down then to force and clamp it all together. Effectively, if you can't
lift that transom, then you can't open the window. So, it's a really,
really clever design that doesn't require any fixing or any screws etc, to
fix this to your window.

Great, so I'm going to get some measurements just to give you guys some
sort of idea as to what the measurements are of the product, let me use the
Vernier gauge here. We've got a width there, I'd call that a width...I'm
kind of guessing, just 26.5 mm. We've got a height here - let me look at
the height here. That's 29, say 30 mm. The overall height there, I'll get
that measurement is 39, call it 40 mm. It's just near my 40mm. The width
there, I've give yourself some sort of idea as to what that measurement is.
Again, that's 32mm. There you go.

So, it's a handy little kit. It comes as one little window lock like that.
The keys are universal. The keys are designed to work the whole range of
window locks, all the Met locks carry this particular type of key. So, you
might want to consider having this on the transom, and then having the
other type of window lock that Era does for a metal window on the cockspur
handle. And between the two of them then, you could have really good
security on your metal window.

There you go, a fantastic solution for a problem that has been around for a
while. So, now you don't have to change your windows. If you're happy with
your metal windows, now you have the ability to secure them.

I hope very much that this video has given you the opportunity to make a
considered opinion as to whether this particular lock will suit your
application. But of course, if you need any more info or advice, pop us
over an email or pick up the phone and give us a call at any time you want.
Anyway, that's it from me. Thank you very much, and come and visit our site
some time - www.locksonline.co.uk. Thank you very much. Bye bye, now.
