Hi guys my name's Darrel and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Thank you for taking the time today to tune in to one of our product review videos.

The products that we have in front of us today is a range of offset window locks that's designed for UPVC plastic-type doors. The products that we have here in front of us is manufactured by the company MACO. They're still available, even though I must admit they're not used that much now extensively in the new style of windows and so forth that are out on the market. But nevertheless, it is still a huge many thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of windows out there with still this particular type of locking solution.

So if you've got a MACO, the thing you need to do is have a look, and if you actually look on the faceplate there, you will see that you have the name there, MACO. I don't know if you can actually zoom into that, just a little bit there, perhaps. So if you've got MACO written on there, guys, you're in luck, this is the actual type of window lock you'll probably be looking for.

Another distinctive advantage with, I'm calling them offset, as you can see there, the actual gearbox for one of them, the actual part that actually holds the handle, it actually sits offset as you can see. It doesn't sit in the centre, like a lot of the more modern ranges do. So that's another thing that you need to look at.

Whilst I'm here, I'm looking at the centre piece. The standard centre is between there and there, the standard in the industry of 42 millimetres, and the size of the follower there is standard of 7millimetres. So if I was to get myself a locking handle in there, as you can see, it would sit in there nice and no problem at all.

Now, they come in four different sizes. They come in a 400, which is what this one is here. And to know if it's a 400, it actually has GR1 written and stamped on here, and underneath it has 400 written on it underneath that as well. So I don't know if you can actually see GR1. GR2 would also be stamped on there if it's a 600, GR 3 would be stamped on there if it's an 800, and GR4 would be stamped in exactly the same position if it's a metre lock. All right, so, that's how you can actually check and know which size you've got.

There's another critical measurement that you also need to be aware of as well with this particular type of range, and that's the actual back set. That's the distance from this rail to the centre of that where the spindle will go in to. There's actually 2 different sizes available, there's 20millimetres and there's 25millimetres, that's standard.

To measure what that is, you need to measure from the top of the rail there, to the centre of the screws where that would go across there. That centre section there. And as you can see, there, that on there is 20 millimetres. So it's the top of this guy is where you need to be measuring from. It's quite distinctive; it's 5 millimetres difference between the 2. So if you're 21 on one and 26 on another, then you'll know whether or not you're 25 or 20 millimetres. So that's very well worth knowing.

The standard size of the plate here is standard in the industry at 60 millimetres and the projection of the roller clamps here as you can see is 7.7 millimetres, so well worth you checking out those as well, ok, so that's important as well.

Now there our manufacturer's, who used to manufacture this particular type of window lock many, many years ago and have actually stopped manufacturing them, they're now obsolete, so you may find that you could actually turn around and use these as form of retro to a window lock solution. It may be that you may have to change where your actual keeps are so therefore it would take this particular lock as opposed to the one that you've got there.

So not to say if you can't find a MACO or a Vitek, if there's a make you have that's no longer available, the chances are you may be able to retrofit with one of these particular types of ranges. Like I said, just change the keys.
