Hi guys. My name is Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at Locks Online. Thanks for taking some time to tune in and have a quick look at one of our product review videos.
Now I'm putting these short little videos together to be able to give you, our customers, the opportunity to see the products that we have to offer in hopefully a little bit more detail, in the flesh so to speak.
So today I want to show you a British Standard lock that we have on our website. It's manufactured by the brand name SECUREFAST, and it's available in the all the normal guises that you would expect a sash lock to have. So let's have a look at the product, and then we'll go through all the different permutations and the options that are available.
So this is the actual lock case. As you can see, one of the common denominators as to whether or not you're thinking of replacing a SECUREFAST, or you're thinking that this is the type of lock that you have, is one of the key indicators is the fact this has a black case. There's not many other manufacturers out there that sports a black case in that respect. So if it's a lock that you're trying to replace, you already have one fitted and you want to change the lock for whatever reason, well then the black case is a little bit of a giveaway in respects to that.
Another indicator as well is the shape of the actual bolt. It's quite unique and it's very, very different compared to the majority, like the Yales, the Chubbs, the Unions, and so forth. It has actually got a slightly oval bevel shape and it's quite narrow in its overall height there, as you can see. Once we're talking about the bolt also it has the standard little roller bearings inside. The idea is that if you tried to hacksaw the lock open then those ball bearings or roller bearings there would start to rotate against the hacksaw blade and therefore make it an incredible task indeed. So that's just what those are there designed for.
Also, on either side we have these anti-drill plates there and also on the other side as well, means it can be fitted in either hand on the lock, etc. For changing the hand in, while we're talking about that, you can simply undo the screw here, pull the latch out, turn it round, pop the screw back in, and there's your handing all sorted. So that's how you would consider doing the handing.
Also, on the security side, it has a curtain here which we call a lever curtain. Therefore then, you can't directly attack the levers into trying to manipulate the lock.
Now as I've mentioned, they're available also in the brass finish, which is the finish that we have here. It's also available in a silver finish as well, in case you've got chrome or silver handles, etc. And it's also available in 2.5 inch, which is the size that we have here, and also a 3-inch version as well.
So whilst I have this here let's get some measurements just to give you guys some sort of idea of the overall spec of this particular lock. So we'll talk about the face plate at the moment. The size of the face plate is the standard 25 mm face plate, the actual overall length of the face plate... I'll tell you what I will do to make sure it's a more accurate measurement is the actual cover that goes over the lock there. There you go, that is measuring there at round about the 158 mm there. The fixing centers, as I'll give you those fixing centers as well, just in case you're thinking that it is a retro that you're wanting to look at, that there is about 137, about 138 mm give or take a millimeter or so there between the fixing centers.
Also whilst I have this here as well, you can see that the British Standard Kitemark is stamped there, and it says here security five levers, and up at the top here you have the name SECUREFAST. This blue that you see on here is just a protective cover to stop the brass weisers in this packaging, etc, from being damaged.
The actual size of the case, now the back set is going to change depending on the 2.5-inch or the 3-inch lock that you have. As I've mentioned, this is the 2.5-inch lock. The actual back set measurement is measured from the face plate to the center of either the handle or the key there. As you can see there, we're looking at round about 44 mm there, the back set is.
The actual thickness of the case, I'll get the maximum thickness because those plates are a little bit thicker than normal. Just get that in there like that, measure that there like that, there you go. So that there is around about 18 mm thick. So you need to be drilling yourself at least an 18 mm hole to get this into the door.
So there you go guys and as you can see then finally, if I pop that down there like that, finally then you have a full body keep here in which to put into the frame. Obviously this therefore then aids the security, and it comes standard with two keys and obviously its fixing pack as well. We can also, if you wish, to have them keyed alike as well. If you need to we can actually have a group of them keyed alike if you want one key to fit all your house. So we can do that as well for you.
So if you need a bit more information or advice on this, by all means pop us over an email, use the live chat that we have, or pick up the phone can give us a call. Either way we'd love to hear from you, and more importantly we'd love to see you as one of our customers. So from me, Darrel, and all of us at the team, thanks for taking the time to tune in and hope to catch with you real soon. Take care now, bye-bye.
