This model of window lock gear box has been designed and manufactured by Saracen.
Gearboxes in UPVC windows and doors tend to fail first. The reason for this is because they have to deal with the locking, unlocking, opening and closing of the door almost entirely by alone.

If you are looking to replace yours these models should have either Saracen and sometimes AUVI stamped on them.

They are also available in two different backset sizes, 20mm and 22mm. The patent numbers for these sizes should be 05080 and 05058 respectively.
This is the distance from the edge of the cam to the centre of the spindle.

This should hopefully give you enough information to be able to indentify your model and replace it if you are having problems.

Hi, guys, my name's Darrel, and I'm head of the tech team here at LocksOnline.co.uk. Today, we're going to have a look at some window gear boxes, or UPVC multi-point locks, window locks, that is. It's the actual gear box that's in the centre.

It's a range from manufacturers we know as Saracen. Valiant is their modern particular range. You might know them also as Auvi as being their particular range as well. We're going to have a look at some of the key markers and so forth on these.

If you zoom in on there, firstly, you can see there that it actually has the name "Saracen" written on it. That's well worth looking at to make sure whether or not the one that you have is actually a Saracen. Some of the older ones may have "Auvi" written on them. That's A-U-V-I as the name. It might be an older version, and you may see that. It's exactly the same gearbox, so that's well worth you knowing.

They did two different sizes. They do the 20 millimetre, and they also do the 22 millimetres. There are some dead giveaways on these. It's, a, they've got this little crank that sits there like that, and the other one doesn't, as you can see there like that.

The other one, as well, is that they've actually got, and if you can actually zoom in on there for us, if you take it off, if you look here where the ratchet system is, you'll see that there's a number there. That number there is the giveaway as to which one you have. If you've got 0-5-0-6-0, and it's flat like this, then you'll know that that's the 20-millimetre version. If you've got on there, and can you zoom in on that firstly? It's got 0-5-0-5-8, then this is the 22-millimetre version.

The measurements are, when you're looking at these and you're thinking to yourself, "What is that 22- and that 20-millimetre version?" It's from where the cam sits roughly about there to the centre of the actual spindle. It's not the actual leading faceplate. It's just sits underneath there. It's where the projection travels back and forth from. That's well worth you knowing.

The centres here for your screw centres is 42 millimetres. That's an industry standard these days. Basically, here's a handle here. You can have any type of handle, and that follower there is for the spindle. Seven millimetres are standard. That's how that works.

The projection here is 11 millimetres, and that's pretty standard these days. This is the actual range. They're very, very popular. They're probably one of the most popular ranges that we can do for your boxes.

The other distinct advantages with these is these are the type of arms that you would expect to see with them. As you can see here, here are the serrations that you've got. They would actually sit in there. These are all available at a different length as well. You have can different sizes depending on your particular application.

There you go, guys, way more about the actual gearboxes. Ninety percent of the time, it's the gearboxes that fail on a window, so this is what you'd probably be looking for. This is what you'd need to get if you're window starts to fail, etc. Chances are it's going to be this gearbox that's giving you gyp.

The two distinctive variations are available on our website. If there's something that I haven't mentioned that you think, "I need to know that" or "I'm not 100% sure about that" pop us over an email, use our live chat on our website. It's totally free, and you can either chat with me, or you can chat with any of the guys on the sales team. We're all pretty knowledgeable on these product ranges, so that's no problem at all.

Ultimately, we'd love to see you as a customer. So, from me, Darrel, and all of us here at the LocksOnline team, thanks for the taking the time to tune in, and we'll catch up with you really soon. Take care now. Bye-bye.
